Mario on Joe Rose: Hear a fake tough guy tell you to work hard

Mario will not finish out this contract. Don’t believe a word from these insiders pushing the narrative thatif Mario goes, the money goes a toxic fan base will always have the final say.
Yea, the insiders told me when Mario was hired that he would be a god send. That Mario was the answer to all of our woes. Well, the chickens have come home to roost.

I think you'll find that most of those big wins are early in the season. Once the team establishes its tendencies, other teams adjust accordingly and rather than re-adjust, Mario tends to do the same things all season long./
A phrase I keep using in recent post - "I've said this in another post", this one weeks ago though, and believe it was regarding the defense...and somewhat to your point, I mentioned, if this team continues to IMPROVE as the season goes on, etc etc. - Have we witnessed a Mario team improve as the season went on? Or add new wrinkles? Opposing teams just need to watch a couple of games and know all our tendencies.

Mario ain’t fake. His problem is he’s just wired to grind harder when things go wrong. That mindset, background, and upbringing is what helped build him, but it’s also what’s holding him back now. You can’t outwork and grind harder every problem. At some point you have to let go and evolve.

He’s the type who responds to mistakes by making practice longer, more intensive, and harder instead of more efficient, and that’s the kind of grind that probably wears his team down later in the season when they get tight and scared to make mistakes. Along with failure to adapt offensive.

So the answer to this is another hard truth or made up lie the board ate up. We have a very good OL, but there are warts there that have come about because of recruiting misses. We dont have the depth along the OL to do that. ****, we are in year 4 and the left side of the line still has issues. Its why we need to go get a center every year in the portal.
So we don’t have a single OL capable of subbing in? Why not have Samson ready to sub at guard or tackle?

Agree. He doesn't know when to work smarter instead of work harder

Maybe that's not 'fake,' but he often preaches about toughness. By what definition of 'tough' do you lean toward clearcut risk aversion in the face of pressure? He doesn't manage risk; he sometimes avoids it. I don't believe he's a liar. I just don't understand how to reconcile those two contradicting realities.

Someone tell him “grinding harder” would include studying the game of football. In particular what offenses do in order to score points. Grind watching films of teams who score and why they score. Then grind and watch film of your game and see what we do. Then grind and find a way to make your offense look more similar to ones that score points.

He is our only sub and they only play him at LG cause it’s clear that they trust him enough. Everybody behind those 6 has shown to be worth **** yet which again is a problem.

Ryan Rodriguez was viable as a backup. He should be as well. 5 guys cannot consistently block 6 or a late 7th crashing in. We're more often losing on numbers and tendencies. And, our C and TEs are hurting us in important spots. But, we go back to 12 personnel because...

There’s a chance Samson is one of our tackles next year, so should be confident subbing. Otherwise, serious indictment if we haven’t developed backups to sub for a couple plays. Heaven forbid should we have an injury on OL.

Interesting point.

Rudy Fernandez (then UM's Chief of Staff and very close Joe E ally) was on OBB's podcast day after-ish Mario got the nod and Joe E (and Rudy) were acknowledged key figures in making it happen...

He specifically mentioned to Toast, "...we have calculated a Top 10 Miami is equivalent to $100MM in brand advertising..."

IF this holds true, and they remain in decision making roles, at some point, Mario's buyout costs vs lost value to UM on the X, Y chart will pass a critical inflection point of no return.

I suspect that's when a change is made.

I'll also add that by the time Mario leaves (assuming things continue as is for the next 2-3 years), new conference and revenue sharing will be known and assuming things go well for our school, the money will be flowing.

It's only a matter of time until the players begin to tune him out and when that happens he is done for.
That's what I have been thinking. Gotta believe that a bunch of the players are smart enough (or their "agents" are) to see that Mario's way - and continued failure - is not in their best interests.

This is the issue in a nutshell. It’s the definition of stupidity.

He still think grind harder mean bringing in the right people/players and drilling down and executing better. Someone going to have to break through to him in the offseason.

I think this made up lie that Mario is a good evaluator is about to be shattered. His Oregon hauls showed he wasnt. @Rellyrell he has countless posts outlining this for years now but people didnt want to listen. He would have some home runs and a tons of strikeouts. This is not different than Mario is a perfectionsit and runs a tight which again was a lie.

Has anyone ever directly asked Mario how to reconcile the "tough/man" talk with consistently turtling up to the "most risk averse" decisions (even literal formations) when the pressure rises? I think those two realities contradict. But, who knows how he views it. I'd be fascinated by that response.
Have you ever heard Mario talk about scheme or strategy? Everything is about mentality and work ethic. He offers nothing as a HC during a football game. As evidenced by the clueless stare on the sidelines each week. He is just a guy on Gameday.
