Mario Monday Press Conference

I was not a fan of that 4th and long TO. SMU didnt have a timeout and was just going with a predetermined call. I would have liked to let that play out. If anything else, calling the TO gives SMU a chance to do something different (unlike us).

Not enough good journalists out there, and too much control over credentials probably.

I didn't hate the timeout. I don't think there's a "right" or "wrong" way to play that. I don't care to, but I'm sure I could go back and find examples of very successful coaches who have done it both ways.

We just literally can't have anything nice, so we call the timeout, and our defensive end blasts the QB in the face because he doesn't hear the whistle. IMO this is a clear case of playing the result. If we call the TO, Lightfoot holds up, and we look prepared after the TO and they don't pick up the first down, everyone is saying how smart it was to let everyone get a breath and take a look at how they lined up/what they wanted to do. I just cannot believe we run into the ******* kid and they don't even have to run a play to get a first down. It's so goddamned hard to be a fan of this program.

Rare time I disagree with you. SMU has no TO’s and rushing to get their play in. Why give Lashlee a chance to regroup his offense and scheme up their best 4th and long play? If SMU could stop the clock I would feel differently, but in this situation I think it’s clear you let the team rush their play with the stress of the clock running.

I agree with you but unfortunately, this exact scenario is not on a chart.

Fletcher would absolutely murder on another team. Allow him to transfer to NCState or Pitt for these upcoming games and all of yall would eat your words.

Also, I love all of the microaggression based dog whistling against Canesville. Some of us are just as stubborn and lacking of self-awareness as Mario is, but in other ways.

Trumpycane thinks we might be stubborn but at least we didn’t imply race was why ****** *** Jacurri wasn’t starting

I won't argue with you. I think my point was mainly I don't think there's a clear right or wrong answer here. I can see it both ways. If you feel the way you explained, I completely understand that and won't say you're wrong at all. I just think it's a personal preference, versus a clearly incorrect analytical decision, which we've had our share of. Fair post, though. I'm being honest, if they'd have run the play and gotten the first down, I wouldn't have been on here going nuts saying we should have called the timeout. JMO, obviously you and others feel different, and it's understandable.

The only thing you can't do is give them a free 15 yards without even having to snap the ball, but....

is there still a defensive player with a headset in their helmet?

if so, thats the guy who should have been told timeout coming dont go all out to avoid the dead ball flag in that case. seemed like our entire defense didnt know a timeout was coming there

The entire point of calling the timeout is waiting to see what they’re going to run. So no, you don’t call it early. You call it right before the snap and you don’t even think your ******* edge rusher is going to smash into the quarterback like a banshee, unless you realize your program is totally cursed beyond belief. In which case, sure, of course he will, and he’ll probably pop a hamstring trying to pull up.

If you think the call was dumb, that’s fine. Like I said, I’m sure many coaches would advocate one way or the other. But the timing wasn’t dumb. We’re just dumb and apparently can’t hear.
****ing on Mario for calling the TO seems like overkill. It’s a crazy second guess. So it’s his fault for the call on Lightfoot? First of all, the officials should have stepped in earlier knowing the situation was potentially chaotic. Obviously, Lightfoot didn’t realize the play was dead & tried to hold up the QB. The SMU tackle apparently wasn’t sure about the whistle as he continued with the play. It was another **** show involving the officials.

There is but I believe it cuts off just like the QB's does.

IDk what you all think these local guys are going to ask him.
Did you watch the presser? Someone asked Mario a basketball question. Some other clown asked if they are still scrimmaging at this point of the season. No one asked why he decided to pay a below average QB millions of dollars only to treat him with kiddy gloves. No one asked why his teams have had major penalty issues dating back to Oregon. There literally wasn’t one tough question.

bc if they did, they'd get another whiny response like they did last week from dawson and Mario.

**** then cut off their access like hes doing with OBB

He's got more platitudes than Golden's binder. An unintelligent person who is unaware of his lack of intelligence is a dangerous person.

The reporters are asking softball questions. Why can't they strictly ask the guy why do your teams struggle in November based upon stats and wins/losses? This isn't just a year problem; this has been a tenure problem.

be happy questions are asked at all komrade

Crazier idea. How about our $2 million AD pick up the phone from his lake house is SC and tell one of his assistants to type out a memo about how awful the officiating has been. These calls potentially cost your school millions of dollars.
Dude is ******* useless
