manny stepped in after five games in order to get the D back on track. thats more than any of the previous HCs ever did with regards to their beloved units (golden wouldnt replace dorito or the scheme and richt wouldnt hire an OC or do anything to change the O). who says he hired dudes he cant fire? baker is his hire and stepped over him to get the D right. six games and you guys have made conclusions is pretty dumb. this year hasnt been great, but hes six games into his career. give him a full year and an offseason to make changes before we come down to any final conclusions.
i trust manny will do whatever it takes to get the D right (as weve seen w the UVA game), but the real question for me is whether **** force enos to change the scheme.
Why not dismiss Baker? What successful head coach handles an underperforming coordinator in this paternalistic manner? It’s a little pathetic and very concerning. If his initial belief was being HC meant not coordinating, then he’s going against his better judgment by getting involved in the defense; why is he compromising himself and the team? As a rookie coach he and—by extension the team—needs the most capable staff he can assemble to be successful. Also, does the “standard” not start with coaches?
The ‘conclusions made after six games’ are based on the product he puts on the field, our record, decisions as HC and his inconsistent message about the “standard”. It’s not dumb to look at his 4 years of coaching at Miami and realize he executed his responsibilities better as a defensive coordinator. I’m not saying he can’t redeem himself or the team won’t get better, but I’m not sure his decisions haven’t sullied his credibility with players, staff and recruits, in the same way it has with the fanbase.
