Mario Cristobal...you're now (REALLY) on the clock...

as someone who is apathetic towards anything other than Miami football and boxing, it pains me to say it, but UM is currently a 'basketball school' Something I thought I would never, ever, ever utter. But it is what it is

And with that, Cristobal.... it's on you. The grace period is over.

With that said, as someone who long ago did have an interest in the basketball program (I strongly believed Steve Frazier was going to be our first Big East star, Ochiel Swaby, Constantine Popa, Tim James, Steven Edwards and was heart broken when Leonard Hamilton left the program) Im happy for all of you guys who are alums and/or fans of the hoops team. That watched from the days of Tito Horford and Kevin Presto, and attended games at the Knight Center, I am happy for U guys.

And yeah, a rising tide lifts all vessels. The football program has some real pressure on them to hold up their end of the bargain. They truly were the genesis of 'the U' as we know it, and made it a national brand. Now, they have to live up to what they have built

The Miami Hurricanes are in the Final Four. Words I never thought I'd type out. I just might actually watch this Saturday.
Steve you know you're my brother, but as an educated man don't have me cuss you out... Lol. This school is literally a football school(results be damned)now and always... The proceeds from our football program have built this university from scratch. Built this university up from the ground and put us in a position to become the university we are today & FURTHERMORE without the proceeds from football the basketball program would've never came back and it definitely wouldn't have been able to continue on through all the down years. Reality of the world is success comes and goes. We've been on a 18 year hiatus & there's no justifying that. But that still doesn't take away what made this school what it is...

Fair enough, but this was Jimmy's 13th season at UM and we're talking about year two for Mario at a program that's been in the toilet for 20 years.

Yes, we need to see marked improvement year two—new assistants, player overhaul—but clock really doesn't start running until year three.

****, look at Mike Norvell. Dude was 6-12 going into the Miami game in his second year, finished 5-7 on the year and went 10-3 year three (albeit beating no ranked teams and a bad OU team — 6-6 — in a bowl game.)

Cristobal needs to show more than last year's 5-7 team, but he won't turn this thing back into a football school overnight after Larrañaga has been changing the narrative for well over a decade now.

In fairness, w/ all context provided, I don’t think comparing Norvell’s situation w/ Mario is a fair assessment. I’ve been a champion in defending Mario, but let’s be honest, Mario took over a program that’s been under performing from a coach who had no business being here, but Miami was still 21-15 before Mario took over, w/ a mostly in tact roster that barely went 7-5, so the notion was we should win about 8 games in yr 1.

Norvell took over a completely & full dumpster fire that went 18-20 under his predecessors. To make matters worst, he took over during a wonky Covid yr w/ a new roster, including a new QB who couldn’t throw for chit. In Yr 2, I got blasted on here when I said don’t let FSU’s 5-7 record fool u, they actually looked competent in many of the games they lost.

The problem many had w/ Mario’s 1st yr, well I’ll speak for myself; I knew yr 1 would be a struggle. ****, I created a whole thread asking for patience w/ Mario. Now, w/ that said, did I think we would be a 5-7 struggling team? No; but, 5-7 doesn’t bother me. Losing in the fashion we did bothered me.

So let’s compare FSU’s 5-7 in yr 2 under Norvell vs. Miami’s 5-7 under Mario:

FSU:
1. 38-41 L in OT #9 ND
2. 17-20 L to Jacksonville St
3. 14-35 L to WF
4. 23-31 L to UL
5. 20-30 L to Clemson
6. 14-28 L to #19 NCSt
7. 21-24 L to UF

Combined loss differential of 62 pts or about 9 pts/game

Miami:
1. 9-17 L to #24 A&M
2. 31-45 to MTSU
3. 24-27 to UNC
4. 21-45 to Duke
5. 3-45 to FSU
6. 10-40 to #9 Clemson
7. 16-42 to Pitt

Combined loss differential of 147 pts or about 21 pts/game

That is absolutely unacceptable. Under Diaz w/ practically the same squad we lost 5 games on avg. of about 12 pts/game. In 2019, our 7 losses avg. about 7 pts/loss. THAT’S why the expectations was for a proven coach to take a team that’s been under achieving, losing close games to inferior openers to close that gap. Instead, the exact opposite happen; not only did the record become worst, but the product on the field became historically worst.

Now, as I’ve said many times, I’m a patience man. I’ll give Mario a mulligan for yr 1, I’ll blame Gattis & them all for it, but there is zero excuses for us not to see a better product than the chit that was forced down loyal fans throats
