Mario Cristobal...you're now (REALLY) on the clock...

Down 13.

Just saying.

BTW, OP why’d you stop being a fan? Sucks for you to have dealt with the days of Tito and Popa … to only not be a fan now.

And Miami football and boxing? We have a boxing team? Who is on it? Frank and Quad?

LOL, did you know Rich Kotite(yes, THAT one) was on the UM boxing team back in the day? That's when there actually were college boxing teams and a big tournament in Reno, NV (if Im not mistaken)

But really, this has more to do with my eroding interest in college basketball, overall. But yeah, your post did get me thinking how ironic and sad this is, lol

Any thoughts that Mario wasn’t on the clock from day one, is wrong. Idc how bad thee roster was, it wasn’t non bowl eligible bad. The offense was historically bad, even after returning a historically good QB.

as someone who is apathetic towards anything other than Miami football and boxing, it pains me to say it, but UM is currently a 'basketball school' Something I thought I would never, ever, ever utter. But it is what it is

And with that, Cristobal.... it's on you. The grace period is over.

With that said, as someone who long ago did have an interest in the basketball program (I strongly believed Steve Frazier was going to be our first Big East star, Ochiel Swaby, Constantine Popa, Tim James, Steven Edwards and was heart broken when Leonard Hamilton left the program) Im happy for all of you guys who are alums and/or fans of the hoops team. That watched from the days of Tito Horford and Kevin Presto, and attended games at the Knight Center, I am happy for U guys.

And yeah, a rising tide lifts all vessels. The football program has some real pressure on them to hold up their end of the bargain. They truly were the genesis of 'the U' as we know it, and made it a national brand. Now, they have to live up to what they have built

The Miami Hurricanes are in the Final Four. Words I never thought I'd type out. I just might actually watch this Saturday.
They have been winning without u please do not watch you are a JINX

Coach L and Coach Meier are proof that with hard work and determination that the U sports Phoenix can rise out of the ashes. Women’s program is consistently competitive. The men’s team is consistently competitive. This did not happen overnight. I have no doubt that given time, Mario will make The football team much more competitive. He is a hard worker and is determined. For now, let’s support Coach L and the men’s team and let’s keep supporting Mario to right the football ship.

Jesus Christ; this board becomes overtly emotional & offended way too often, at times.

U’re not getting the gist & drift of @k9cane post. No one thinks of Miami basketball when mentioning this University. Just like no sane person would consider UF a b-ball power despite winning back to back b-ball Nat’l titles or Michigan as a b-ball power despite winning a Nat’l title & having the famed Fab 5.

The point that’s been made is that Miami is a football power, and also a baseball power, yet it’s the least talked about program that’s been having the most success since joining the ACC, & certainly this side of 2010. THAT’S A F’ing problem!

The difference between UF winning back to back Nat’l titles vs. Miami going to the Final 4 this season is that UF’s FB program won a Nat’l Championship in one of those seasons, & won another title shortly after the 2nd . So the narrative was UF had a top tier ATHLETIC PROGRAM. The difference between UofM winning a b-ball Nat’l title in the 80’s & having the spot light on the Fab 5 in the 90’s was UofM FB was winning their conference, playing in Rose Bowls, & shortly after the Fab5 winning a Nat’l themselves; so the narrative was they had a top tier ATHLETIC PROGRAM.

The point Steve is making is that when u look at the resources & support behind Coach L vs. the football team it’s literally night & day; yet, it’s Coach L that has done way more w/ less than his peers on the football side. In true reality Miami is not a b-ball school, but it’s the b-ball program that’s been heads & shoulders above the other, more known programs. W/ the resources allocated towards Mario to return Miami back to FB lore, yeah there’s going to be some pressure imposed whether the loyalist fan wants to admit or not.
This.

You would think Steve isn’t a goat on the boards and doesn’t understand this athletic program.

Just don’t talk to him about boxing. Guy is clueless!!

He’s been on the clock since we lost to Middle Tennessee.

If we don’t win 9+ games either this year or next, he’ll be shown the door.
Did you discuss this with Bud Elliot and Brandon Sonnone before hitting the post reply button?

First time I disagree with you on something this adamantly.

Baseball has 4 titles. I dont think I've ever seen anyone say "**** football needs to step it up" for baseball. Why do we as a fanbase constantly need to **** on ourselves even when we succeed?

Mario has been here ONE YEAR

Coach L is in DECADE plus.....

Can we please separate the two? It isnt even close to apples to apples.

Show me one fan who thinks our football roster is worse now than a year before and I will point out someone I will never listen to again. Mario deserves, like every other coach, more than ONE year.

bizarre and hilarious to read a thread where everyone is misdirecting their aggression and just shoveling **** at all-time good human being @k9cane
Happens all the time on these boards. It’s OK to debate and disagree WITHOUT attacking another’s character or reverting to elementary school name calling.

ahh geez, thanks Ben.

But hey, most people are good about my opinion, and people are allowed to disagree. Re-reading my OP, I do think my wording of seeing Miami described as a 'basketball school' is misguided. I think it's more surreal than anything else, given the history of the UM athletic program

Im not one of those guys who is a die-hard Hurricane football fan, and also a Duke hoops fan. For me, UM is the only athletic program I care about. But I just dont watch college basketball the way I once did. I mean, I can name random players from the 80s Georgetown team like Horace Broadnax, Gene Smith, Ralph Dalton( I swear I didn't Google that), but cant name anyone outside of a few UM players from this season, currently

For me, UM football is it. And to be honest, I'd say its why most of us are here on this fine website

Shaved ape? That extremely disrespectful any way you slice it.

The merits of Coach L and Mario should be debated individually because basketball and football are very different sports and at very different tenures of each coach. There are no parallels and the most distinguishing aspect is undoubtedly football put the “U” in the national spotlight.

Most are ignorant of UM basketball and exactly how much this program has struggled. You guys knew it was bad, sure, but you have no idea. That's why you guys are acting like Coach L found his success in year 12. That's just wrong and completely misinformed.

In the world of relativism, blowing out top-ranked Duke in his second year and winning the conference in basketball is as big a feat as there can be. You will struggle to find turnarounds that were as large and fast anywhere else in college basketball.

Then, in the middle of that, the NCAA and the CBB Media Mafia tried to assassinate this program with the ADIDAS nonsense, attacking Coach L personally. Yet, here we are, rising again.

Coach L immediately made the program better, no excuses. The culture sucked. The roster was mismanaged. The program has a nothing budget. It improved anyway, and unlike football, ACC basketball teams are actually good.

Now, when it comes to the clean-cut Coach-FIU-Fired, he inherited some good, some bad and some terrible, but he hid behind it all immediately. Different sports, sure, but a crap job is a crap job.
