This morning, Miami Hurricanes head coach Mario Cristobal spoke on 560 WQAM radio, where he stated that former five-star defensive lineman commit Hayden Lowe is no longer with the team.



Lowe did not play last season after battling through an injury that sidelined him for the full 2025-26 season. Lowe was also kept away from spring camp this season due to personal issues. He was a top 2025 recruit, named as a five-star prospect. He ranked as the nation's No. 16 overall player, No. 2 edge rusher, and the No. 2 player out of California.

Cristobal also noted that incoming freshman cornerback Jontavius Wyman is no longer with the team. He was ranked as the nation's No. 64 overall prospect in the 2026 recruiting class and was expected to take limited snaps behind a crowded defensive back group.

Cristobal also said tight end Luka Gilbert will miss the entire 2026-27 season due to an injury. With Gilbert going down, someone is going to have to step up in the tight end room, giving more opportunities to Gavin Mueller and Israel Briggs.

But Bain and Mesidor leaving creates a little leadership (and age)vacuum in the dl a bit except for Moten. Like Damon Wilson was an incoming transfer. Lightfoot, Blount, and Nust Scott need to be the new leaders but are all barely Juniors now…. So if he started pulling this after they left and not before it’s clearly a sign he thought he couldn’t do it before and could do it after….

Wish lowe didn't go out like that but it is what it is. Def seem like those two are the leaders of the dline when it comes to enforcers.

You missed and twisted my point completely. I wasn't saying there is no leadership. I was saying HE FELT that he could then do those things. No one is saying Lowes actions aren't on him. I was asking if this had happened at all when Bain and Mesidor were here or if it just occured after they left. Blount and Lightfoot are 1yr older than him and Wilson was a new transfer. Clearly Lowe isn't a respectful person if he was going after coaches as well....

If Blount and Lightfoot put him in his place after his disrespect, that's a great sign. Idk if that is true or just rumors though.

Two things can be true without other conclusions. Before the injury the kids want like this at all last year. Possibly it was because of the veteran leadership on last year's team. Possibly it was because serious injuries when dealt with for the first time can **** with people's heads. Possibly it's another year of being young and rich in Miami. Possibly it's as we have all discussed previously money changes these kids in various ways. Could be plenty of ****. But one thing it's not is a miss on his evaluation. Kid was a perfect teammate, eager to learn last year. For whatever reason which I'm not gonna GUESS ON, he came into this spring as an entirely different individual and we weren't having what he came back as. We have him time to get right over the spring & he came back much the same way. This isn't a football issue. Kid works his *** off & has all the tools but this type of kid will tear a locker room apart.

Mario is a lot looser than when he got here. Not as loose as a San Francisco sphincter - but you can see it - looser. More relaxed. Having more fun.

That alone to me is a comforting - when the coach is pretty happy - everyone's happy. His first couple of years here - I had no idea he could even smile.

This is getting . . . fun!

 

What really sucks about the Gilbert situation is his injury didn’t even happen on the field. Not sure what happened, but supposedly he got injured in the off-season while visiting home?

The problem for a few is they break the first rule of BS'ing.

NEVER start believing your OWN BS.

You're NOT still in high school - this is your first entry into the real world - and the real world requires you to grow the H*** Up.

Yes no one bats 1000 but you can’t tell me Mario didn’t recruit the kid and get to know him and listen to what people said about his character. Sometimes kids get away from home make mistakes and or don’t fit into what he culture. I just can’t blame Mario who has stopped recruiting premier players based on character. It is what it is though.
