This morning, Miami Hurricanes head coach Mario Cristobal spoke on 560 WQAM radio, where he stated that former five-star defensive lineman commit Hayden Lowe is no longer with the team.



Lowe did not play last season after battling through an injury that sidelined him for the full 2025-26 season. Lowe was also kept away from spring camp this season due to personal issues. He was a top 2025 recruit, named as a five-star prospect. He ranked as the nation's No. 16 overall player, No. 2 edge rusher, and the No. 2 player out of California.

Cristobal also noted that incoming freshman cornerback Jontavius Wyman is no longer with the team. He was ranked as the nation's No. 64 overall prospect in the 2026 recruiting class and was expected to take limited snaps behind a crowded defensive back group.

Cristobal also said tight end Luka Gilbert will miss the entire 2026-27 season due to an injury. With Gilbert going down, someone is going to have to step up in the tight end room, giving more opportunities to Gavin Mueller and Israel Briggs.

 

What really sucks about the Gilbert situation is his injury didn’t even happen on the field. Not sure what happened, but supposedly he got injured in the off-season while visiting home?

Hopefully, the kid rehabs and rebuilds ready to compete in Spring. Depending on how the two freshmen do this year, Gilbert could be on the outside looking in.

Feel terrible for the kid but his future at Miami is solely in his hands. He either works to compete and carve out a role or he gets processed, because the talent will only keep getting stacked

No it’s not lol. Name me in 4 plus years how many problem players Mario had brought in? Sometimes 19 year olds that are far from home make mistakes. Mario doesn’t bring in kids who are clowns.

Two things can be true without other conclusions. Before the injury the kids want like this at all last year. Possibly it was because of the veteran leadership on last year's team. Possibly it was because serious injuries when dealt with for the first time can **** with people's heads. Possibly it's another year of being young and rich in Miami. Possibly it's as we have all discussed previously money changes these kids in various ways. Could be plenty of ****. But one thing it's not is a miss on his evaluation. Kid was a perfect teammate, eager to learn last year. For whatever reason which I'm not gonna GUESS ON, he came into this spring as an entirely different individual and we weren't having what he came back as. We have him time to get right over the spring & he came back much the same way. This isn't a football issue. Kid works his *** off & has all the tools but this type of kid will tear a locker room apart.

He was away because Mario sent him home after repeated issues and he tried to portal out over it. He has serious character issues and needs to grow up. Kid kept cussing out his position groups assistants to the extent where he would rant for 5-10 minutes at a time and disrupt dudes abilities to practice. Missing calls constantly cause he just wanted to do his thing. If he stays gone regardless of all the talent he definitely has he sucks as a teammate cause of his attitude towards coaches and players. That's the **** that tears a locker room apart. Not even warren was this bad.

And without multiple chances. Obviously unless it's something insane like a criminal offense, etc.

But attitude ****, disobedience, loafing, motivation, etc....yeah, when you're as good as this kid, you get a little longer leash. He obviously got one, and he still couldn't keep his **** together. Sucks, but it is what it is. Not every kid is gonna pan out, we all know that. That's why you recruit 25+ of the best kids you can possibly find every single season.

But sometimes a million dollars can turn a young kid with latent anger issues into a raging *******.

maybe it was flagged and mario took a chance on him because of the talent, hoping i suppose that the program and structure would keep in place. seems it did for a year. sometimes that happens, kids get straightened out. other times it just doesn't work like here.

Sometimes being a true freshman and then dealing with injury away from team messes with guys mental health.. having guys break thru early and focused on ball helps them stay focus and mature with the responsibility.. But this kid had murmurs of being a knucklehead when recruited if I am not mistaken and with whats been posted sound like it wouldnt of mattered.. Kid was talented and it would of been great to see him on field but it was his doing so keep it moving..

Why do you continue to try and put the culpability on the staff rather than on the dude who repeatedly couldn't get with the program?

Well I wasn’t saying last spring. Idk if he was doing any of this while injured during the season.

But Bain and Mesidor leaving creates a little leadership (and age)vacuum in the dl a bit except for Moten. Like Damon Wilson was an incoming transfer. Lightfoot, Blount, and Nust Scott need to be the new leaders but are all barely Juniors now…. So if he started pulling this after they left and not before it’s clearly a sign he thought he couldn’t do it before and could do it after….

because the kid would not have been a problem at miami if the staff had properly evaluated the kid so it is 100% the staff's fault for the kid punching the strength and conditioning coach and others. it is always someone else's fault
