Mario cast a pretty wide net for OC

I won't reiterate what others have said but you know what’s cool about this too? The hiring process lets you meet folks. Who knows. Fast forward 3 years and maybe Mario needs to hire another OC. Maybe Taylor has had success at a better but still mid-tier program and there is a connection the second go-round. Expanding connections and your base of contacts is always fruitful. That's a good thing, considering many on this board think Mario is married to his guys (like the Ponces and Coleys of the world).

Im glad he was open to looking at this type of candidate but in the end he still didnt hire him. Im guessing in 4 years the conversation will be "are you kidding me, we interviewed and actually could have had that guy as our OC at MIami?"

He hired a fracking air raid guy who put up 36 points a game offenses at Houston.

Maybe the conversation will be "glad we hired Dawson" but don't let me get in the way of any moping that might be germinating. :)

Not sure why anyone with the "see Mario isn't married to a system" attitude is using Christian Taylor as a victory lap. Plenty of tight formations. Pistol. Outside zone. If I was giving someone a rudimentary description of the assumed Cristobal offense it would be that. While it would've been a surprising name it wouldn't be a departure. Stylistically they kinda look like App State.

Choosing Dawson is much more of a change

Hindsight is 20/20. Down the road, any decision someone makes can be looked at in either a positive or negative light. In 4 years, we’ll hopefully be looking at Dawson’s hire as a positive.

I probably fall more on the slurp side than mope but still try to have some objectivity. I like what Mario has done, happy with the coaching hires if not the timelines.

Was commenting more about the idea that you get credit for interviewing someone vs actually hiring them. And even more about Taylor himself and how I think he will be a star in the coaching ranks.

I’m sure he got a feeler but Bruce is very much in the coach promotion business, see what he’s done with Mario

All these analysts and advisors to the advisors all sounds good. Useless without talent. Bring me the talent and those who can execute under pressure.

He can coach WR too and makes **** money. If they can align it with Dawson he could be WRC/PGC.

The only thing Mario is set on is finding a winning formula. That should be clear by now. Philosophically both the coordinators he’s hired this off season are perfect matches to local So FL talent as well as fan expectations/wants. I will continue to be on the Mario bus until he stops looking for ways to trade up. He is the right HC for us.

p.s. would love to see this W & M coach join the team in some fashion.

This would also dispel the narrative Mario is a dinosaur married to a ground and pound offense.
It's why it's so laughable when the EXPERTS put all the blame all Mario constantly for anything & everything. Mario's only prerequisite has always been he wants an efficient offense that puts pressure on a defense. How he goes about that is irrelevant.

Man, it is insane how many stupid agenda-pushing porsters come on this board to act as if they know what is inside Mario's head. What his "offensive philosphy" is. What Mario dreams about at night in the way of playcalling.

Mario played for Dennis Erickson. You know, back when Miami was "innovative". Nobody denies Mario will recruit great OLs. But somehow, the CIS Mope Squad, the CIS Miami-haters, the CIS Cristobal-slanderers are turning this into a "run-first" philosophy (regardless of past Mario stats or the stats of OTHER current college teams that seem more pass-happy, at least in their guesstimation).

The worst of all are the porsters who claim that Mario actually WANTS to score fewer points. It's mind-boggling how those conclusions are produced from the minds of people who seem capable of driving a car and paying bills.
