Mario’s turtle ball

Thank god for this thread and other fans seeing what im seeing, cuz i was gonna post something similar. We’re not saying we’re not thrilled with the win or that we arent high on this team. Buttttttt, as said, this is now the 3rd big game that we beat their ***, yet somehow we are clinching our holes a lil because we let them have a chance. Idk who’s to blame mario, dawson or maybe even the OL (less effort and penalties)?!??! Its cfb, it will catch up to us eventually. Dont waste this team, keep the foot on the pedal and dominate the entire game.

I’ll say this. Mario has done a great job getting these guys up for these games and we look great early in big games. Just gotta get rid of the fizzle.

And for f#cks sake, can we clean up the penalties?!?!

Atlanta lost the football game running their regular offense instead of running clock.

Like... at least attempt it.
Indeed they were too aggressive Atlanta. They should've run the ball and kick the field goal and it would've been over

This team is resilient to say the least. They were on the road against their bitter rivals and dominated them. We have to clean up the penalties but all in all I'm happy with the win.

It’s not just the offensive conservatism. We’ve been extremely conservative on defense with a lead too. Soft zone coverage, almost prevent like.

Truthfully, it saved us the game. It made them run a ton of plays and eat the clock. They were totally gassed, too, but a quick strike TD and that game was even more unnerving.

Gosh you are stupid to say stuff like this. Mario has built a PROGRAM from the foundation up; Miami is built to stay and compete at the top. Lots to clean up, but he's built an organization top to bottom and you're going to say he sucks? He is 3-0 vs ND, FSU, and UF this year (and 6-0 vs Florida teams in the last six games)--the last time that happened? 1987. Respect the man who has brought our Canes back from the dead.
I have the ultimate respect for him as a recruiter and someone who knows how to build a roster. My point which some people understand but many don't is that is he is NOT a head coach. One of the greatest qualitites a head coach can have is the ability to coach his players on the sidlelines by making excellent decisions during the game. Mario in his 4th year has failed woefully in that category and is far from being an elite coach. An elite coach is Jimmy Johnson. How can a team like Miami dominate teams and at the end we are struggling for the win. His away record is very poor at Miami. I'm thrilled we beat FSU but they had no quit in them. That's because Mario allowed it. The penalties are killing this team and we had 114 yards of them. This has been a constant problem and it seems Mario is having a most difficult time correcting that problem. We are very lucky Mike Norvell decided to go for fourth and 8 in the first half. That bone head move he made in my opinion changed everything. I for one don't believe this team is elite but very good. When we get up we lose our kiiler instinct not only on offense but defense too. Our DB's were playing way off once we got a big lead thus many completions where FSU players were open. Beck and Toney were life savers last night. I don't know what is the problem with Dawson but he goes into a shell too. You can disagree all you want but there are several teams right now that are better than us. Mario needs to learn how to crush and demoralize opponents when we get a lead. He has never has the intuitive ability to do that. That is what great teams do.

If going into a shell and letting our foot off of the pedal doesn’t cost us a game in the regular season it will def cost us a game in the playoffs against the really good teams if the coaches keep doing this. We need to be better. We dominated ND, UF, and FSU and yet we held on by the seat of our pants at the end of all three games. No need for that. Keep doing what’s working. Don’t open the door and let teams back in games and get their confidence way up that they can win. I’m happy with the win but none of those three games should’ve even been stressful at the end. And I do not understand how we did not kick the chip shot fg to make it a 31-19 game. How could you possibly go for it on 4th and 8 for no reason? If FSU recovered the last onside kick after they kicked the fg then they could’ve went for a Hail Mary play like GT did a couple of year ago and somehow beat us 29-28 in a game that we dominated! I love this team, but I went from feeling ecstatic before the 4th Q to feeling ****ed off by the end of the game. We need to close out teams much better. Let’s hope we improve for the Louisville game on 10/17. I’m sure that The Playmaker keeps it 💯 with the coaching staff and there is no way he supported that 4th Q meltdown!

so when the plays are good it's Dawson, when the plays are bad it's Mario?

do I have that right?

Mario ball sapped the energy of our defense and left us vulnerable to the onside kicks

Yes, "turtle ball", when the worst plays we called in the second half were passes that stopped the clock.

After calming a bit I’ll give them some grace. Mostly everything went right for them on those third and fourth down conversations.

Then with us we’ll have a couple of three and outs that are frustrating. Then when we do get aggressive we don’t execute.

I’ll take the win.
I think it’s important to take this in the middle. The defense had them consistently in 3rd and 4th down situations on those drives. Obviously you’d like to stop a few of them, but Castellanos and his scrambling makes that even tougher.

I’d like us to get better in the play action game in those end of game situations. Running a simple roll out off a fake with an easy throw to Toney or Lofton in the flat would go a long way.

I mean come on, you watched the 4th quarter last night right? I love what Mario is doing and his passion for the Canes but there is no way SD all of a sudden decided to take all of the creativity out of the offense in the 4th quarter without some direction from the boss.

Mario has ZERO business being a head coach and again he proved it tonight to all of America AGAIN.
!

You need to find a new team to root for or get a Xanax prescription, cause Mario ain’t going anywhere for a long, long, long time.

When we got the ball 28-3 in the 4th Lofton’s penalty killed that drive. Once FSU went into kitchen sink mode did we expect Miami to keep throwing? Get a sack? Or a pick? It wasn’t perfect but that 4th quarter is not a repeatable thing for other teams.
I was down with the way the team finished, but this is 100% true. No other team is converting on a million 4th downs, with a QB running for his like for half a quarter. This comment actually made me feel better hahah
