At some point, 18+ games into the season, you may be doing him a disservice by not giving him a few games lower in the order to work things out.

A 94-mile per hour fastball is meaningless if it has zero movement and you tee it up.

McFarlane has to develop his change-up as his 3rd pitch. He doesn't throw it with confidence which makes it easier for hitters to sit on his fastball.

His misses are easy takes. He needs to be more around the plate and he'll have much more success. Right now, batters are sitting fastball and comfortable with pitches off the plate.
