Manny's response to possible QB's leaving

man, i dont know how it will take, or to what extent but this program is on the right track with this guy. i fuggin love this dude and he's the right guy to lead us right now

"“Look, that’s outside of our control,’’ Diaz said. “The University of Miami demands that the best player in our locker room playing quarterback plays quarterback. And then what happens beyond that is outside of our control. But I will say this, and this goes with any position, any player: If you don’t want to be for the University of Miami, go somewhere else. This is UM. This is Miami. We don’t have to beg anyone to be a Miami Hurricane. And that’s in recruiting and that’s in anything else.

“We have to start to create value to what it means to play for the Miami Hurricanes. Because right now in my mind that has been devalued. So I’m trying to recreate value in what it means to be on our team. And I’ll be honest, and I’m not even talking about quarterbacks — for any position.

“I don’t really care. I want to find some guys that are all for the U. Guess why? Because that’s how Miami won in the past. And I don’t care what guys are ranked in recruiting. I don’t care what guys have done on our team. We’re going to win with guys that love the University of Miami. That has been proven over and over and over again.’’

I pray to god this guy knows how to be a head coach. Because he's literally everything else a Miami Hurricane should be.

For me it's fool me once shame on you. Fool me 4 times shame on me. I'm skeptical until I start seeing the win column pile up. Until then, it's the same kind of stuff that each of the last 4 failure coaches said before they started getting punched in the face.

Amen brother. That's the short version.

Manny talks a **** of a game. I'm hopeful, but guarded as ****, since this is the second 1st time head coach in a span of what, 10-11 years?

@ star whores.

So let me roll this out for those of you that are slow. Let’s say Tate bounces. That means we have JW15 as the starter and Kosi as the backup. Let’s not forget Kosi’s checkered past on and off the field. He is potentially one major infraction from being of the team. That means you are left with Matchoda as the back up. JW15 goes down or is just not that good and we’re ****ed! Manny can forget all about the TNM bs if that is the case..... And those
Knuckleheads begging for Tate to leave will be the same idiots screaming how Manny is a bum...
Cool, thanks 4 the analysis!

Regarding Diaz's comments...I've been hearing about how strong the Miami brand is for a decade and a half while we sucked (i.e. we don't need to beg kids to come here, program recruits itself etc.). Bull$hit. Kids in high school today weren't alive the last time Miami football was relevant. I don't mean the last time we won a championship. I mean the last time the program was nationally relevant.

You build a brand by winning. Not by sound bites and twitter acumen. Diaz has no brand...just like Randy, just like Golden, just like Richt. We're a middle of the pack ACC program. That's it. We need a coach who will realize that's what he has, and seek to change it. Not throw out cliché lines about what it means to be the U. The U is mediocre until proven otherwise.
....ouch....

It's a great attitude to have, but it comes with a price. This isn't the 80's or 90's. I get what the program needs, but the QB position is a different animal. In other positions like RB, you can have 2-3 studs get share the workload. At QB 1 guy gets the rock. In today's college football, there is no way that a talented QB is going to spend his career siting as a backup when he could start at other P5 schools. That's the reality. You're not going to sell any quality QB in having love for the program with no chance to play. It's just not realistic. A head coach has to make planning decisions for the future. I don't know how you sell top QBs to come in every year. If Jarren balls out, what does TVD do? Does he come to Miami and sit for 3 years? If Tate or K'kosi was the starter, TVD would redshirt year 1, be a backup year 2, then a starter year 3. You can sell that. IDK how you sell sitting for 3 years.

If you look at it, this was the same issue when we had Kaaya. We had 1 quality QB recruit (Allison) during the Kaaya era who wound up transferring. N'kosi was lined up to be the successor based on the timing of Kaaya's departure, but now it Jarren. The same cycle could repeat itself in having a Freshman QB as the starter. My only hope is that Enos attracts top QB recruits that want to learn from him and he keeps them in the fold.

I'm not questioning any of the coaches decisions regarding QB. Jarren has won the job. I'm just pointing out the problems we could face and what the coaches may have to deal with. We could have a depleted QB room for the next 3 years.

True we could....but that's why you recruit.

Transfers go both ways....if we lose someone ..there are plenty good ones coming out of HS EVERY YEAR and always some good transfers

I love what he said....basically if you don't want to be here?... kick rocks.

We'll still win and live. We only want the best herr.

It should ALWAYS be considered to be an honor and a privilege to be a Cane

You don't get it.Nobody is transferring in at QB to be a backup behind an incumbent QB that has more than one year of eligibility. Not happening. No way. Priviledge or not.

Top QB recruits will think twice about coming in behind a returning start with 3 years of eligibility remaining when they may have an opportunity for early playing time elsewhere.

Wow!!! Transfers are NOT our ONLY way of getting QB depth.

We already have highly rated QB recruit Van Dyke strongly leaning our way in 2020. And the highly rated Garcia leaning our way in 2021.

The simple undeniable fact is that EVERYONE doesn't run from competition ....and each and every year there are plenty of good prospects out there that can give Miami compettant QB depth as needed.

Its incumbent on the coach to heavily recruit for that contingency and for Enos to develop prospects like Machoda and others as they arrive.

As for the highly rated HS prospects, Not to say that they'll definitely be here because until NSD nothing is certain ....BUT to date they appear strong on Miami and they know the situation here.

So don't say I don't get it because I do. I'm just not taking an alarmist "sky is falling " position on this challenge as you seem to be.

Leave it as we simply disagree because we'll never close the gap between how you view this and why I consider it a cross that bridge when/IF we ever get there non-issue.

Have a good one

If Jarren does not live up to the standard that Enos and Manny has,or incurs an injury, then what???????????.
This board would implode with a less than a 5 win season...
Think people, we got to build something first, before you start dismantling the infrastructure. We are ONE injury away...need a good group able to step in.

There's really no such thing as stacking chips at the QB position in CFB anymore. If the backup is good enough to start somewhere else, he'll likely be starting somewhere else.

You just don't get it. Rsh freshman was just named the starting QB. If he stays for the next 4 years, Next year's incoming QB won't see the field until his 4th year in the program as a Rsh junior? Do you think it would impact a recruiter's decision? It would definitely give them something to think about. Every school recruiting our prospects is going to drill that into the recruit's head. If you think it's not a factor, you're only fooling yourself.

Then here comes the portal..............but NOTHING is guaranteed, so it comes down to WHERE and what program and level do you want to start, and what program works best for your talent.
32% of starting QB's playing in 2019, did not start with their original team. I know that, but it is not stacking chips to have one or more competent QB's ready to roll in cases of injuries...
It is an insurance policy to protect your season.

Listen, you want to soak your pillow full of tears :cry:over a future imaginary event FINE.

That's your choice. Cry to your heart's content.:sorrow::cry: That improbable "what if ":6fps6:sh*t is just NOT for me ...do you understand?

IF JW is successful I doubt he stays 4yrs ....IF he's NOT ....its an open competition for the position. Either way Miami does NOT become unattractive as a QB landing spot. ANYONE can see that.

You're creating a problem that doesn't currently exist ....But go ahead, knock yourself out man

Here's some other imaginary dumb stuff to worry about... since you're really into that type of nonsense.
  1. What if ALL recruits decide not to come to Miami?:6fps6::6fps6:
  2. What if the IPF falls down and we lose the whole team?:6fps6::6fps6::6fps6:
  3. What if you ran out of imaginary stuff to worry about?:6fps6::6fps6::6fps6::6fps6::6fps6::eek:
Have a good one BYE

You don’t determine this years starter by the optics of how it looks to recruits down the road. Winning this year and having a successful offense is the best way to recruit !

I never said that and I don't know you are implying th as t I did. I am pointing out the challenges that we're going to face with our QB room.

Which is not unique to any school now. Look at the whole Jake Fromm/ Justin Fields debacle, that will become more common place. I read somewhere that over 50% of the 5* Qb’s transfer. Kyler Murray, Baker Mayfield, and countless others who have transfered
And been hugely successful will continue to feed it.
