Manny will call Plays in 2021, Jess Back as DL Coach

I would hope when we started getting smoked at Clemson and with UNC that Manny started calling plays. If not that is negligence.

His call it is his team. I once had to tell somebody who worked for me...If I have to do your job then why are you here? I can save your salary against my P&L.

We can only hope it works but even if it doesn't, that doesn't mean Manny is on some kind of hot seat with the university.

Manny thinks the combination of him calling it with Jess coaching the front (he’s really good there and probably helped Manny to his best D in 18) and TRob coaching the back with a better emphasis on press coverage will significantly improve the product. We are also adding a nice CB in Stevenson. DVD is on field to recruit.

Will it work out? Who knows. But, we are better this way. I’d even say much better. Is that good enough? Time will tell.
We play in a bad enough division that we’ll get to 9 maybe 10 plus wins but well get rocked when we play teams with better or equal talent

The question that keeps popping in my head, why would baker accept that demotion? Go back to some G5 school and be a DC or something

ALL OF THIS.

Did the unc debacle make him unemployable even in the Sun Belt or C USA? **** even No D got a job after Clemson got his best friend fired.

Does Baker like the white sand and sunshine THAT much. Wife doesnt want to leave? Still makes more here than anybody else is offering?

It's baffling.

look people can say money isnt an issue but money is an issue. why didn't the school just fire rumph who everyone says Manny doesn't want? bc they don't want to pay him out. why keep baker publicly after hes been essentially stripped of his position? money. his contract runs out after next year (3 year deal) and bet your *** he isnt getting it renewed

Wrong.

Rumph was at the END of his contract. We would have had to pay him ZERO-POINT-ZERO.

Stop with your BS.

That’s pretty spot on, although this year due to Ron having both cancer & Covid he relinquished play calling duties of the Defense to Jack Del Rio for the most part, but in most of his years in Carolina he called the Defense.

I think Adam Gase called his own plays on offense with the Jets, but he got fired so there’s that lol.

Sean McVay in his first season as Rams HC called all the plays on offense, but since then realized that it was too much on his plate & gave up play calling duties to his OC.

I believe Gruden still calls his own plays on offense too, but if any Raider fans know better please correct me.

But for the most part you’re right, the majority of NFL coaches delegate down play calling to the Coordinators.

Vic Fangio might be the only other one who calls plays, but if you know about Fangio you know he had over 20 years as a DC in the league before getting the Broncos HC job.
Frank Reich calls the plays in Indy but he should give that up too

Does Baker run on the field with water bottles during timeouts?

what do you think is going on? Manny is hard headed, there's nothing too secret about it that you guys don't know about. The guy believes in his system, and perhaps it CAN work with HIM calling the plays.

Look, if Mullet can get NFL sniffs after going 8-4 with the best Gaytor offensive talent that McSharkfvcker can give him, then it's definitely possible for Manny to vault his way to the NFL if he wins 10 games next year using HIS system.

At least, that's what I'm praying for.

Disappointing but it’s what I have learned to expect over last 15 yrs. This program just can’t ever truly commit to success. Weather it selfish coaches whos ego gets in the way or board of trustee’s who won’t commit $$ to program or an inept athletic dept/AD. We just refuse to do it ALL right at the same time.

So Baker is here for no ******* reason? Waste of money and a coaching spot. Amateur hour once again, start up your shortlists for HC after next season.

Yep.. we are acting like we are bama with 100 HC "analysts" that can cover a bad position coach.
Ncaa limits the number of coaches you can have. We can't waste a spot on a buddy that you dont want to fire so he can keep getting checks.
That is a luxury. A program in our position nedds to have every coaching spot productive.

We wasted a spot on patke when we were able to add one. Now baker and dvd are empty track suits too

Baker wasn’t. Rumph shouldn’t be kept also, lol at BS. you were one of the ones defending rumph prolly bc he played here. there are more alums on this board than just you. a lot of us here went there too. just wasting money but as cribby said -- win win bc we win were fine we lose everyones gone.
