Manny choosing to still call plays shows me he didn't get the big picture. It's extremely difficult to be a successful HC (CEO-type) and also being deeply involved on one side of the ball.

Brother - on the front end, I am not disagreeing with you but what is the difference between a head coach who calls his own offensive plays (College & NFL) and a Head Coach that calls his own defense?

I'm NOT fine with Manny not wanting ANYONE ELSE to call the defense but himself.

Miami has money, yes even after the Pandemic we have enough to bring in good coaches on the staff, the reason why Diaz stuck with his guys is because they’re his guys & he didn’t want to go away from his Defense.

This is squarely on Diaz, not lack of resources, or even because some coaches allegedly didn’t wanna come here, any excuse made is 1,000% bullshìt.

We didn’t get a new DC because Diaz didn’t want one, he believes his Defense is not the problem & he doesn’t want to concede that the way his system is ran has major flaws in it.

Agree except the last part. I think he was looking for a DC but to him, maybe he had a list of 2 guys - both said no - and he decided that he'd rather go down with the ship than put some unknown guy in there to run "his defense".

Eh, NFL and College game are a bit different. As a HC, you actually have more overhead than an NFL HC. You have boosters, recruiting, the handling of 18+ year olds. NFL has an offseason, college doesn't.

But it is political because Manny cant fireRumph without firing Baker. It would cause a shytstorm for good reason. ****, he might like Rumph. I never heard of he amd Diaz beefing. So Manny hedges his bets and demotes them both.

If the rumors are true Banda overruled Rumph on CBs to take, the final decision is ultimately Manny’s so he trusted Banda over Rumph. Now he’s going to trust Rumph’s decision on which players to take?

if it doesn't, it doesn't and they're all fired. Manny wasn't getting fired this year so why waste worrying about **** you cant control? if he sucks, the results will show that and **** be gone. this board has to stop freaking out.

If Diaz believes that neither Baker or Rumph or Patke for that matter wouldn’t be able to get another job unless he went all out to make them look good then that just means they’re not qualified for their job in the first place.

Baker has coached at Texas, Ark State & LA Tech before he came to Miami, he’s not an unknown coach, if he got fired from Miami he could easily get a job somewhere else, but there’s literally hundreds of jobs available every year, Diaz is not protecting him by keeping him on staff to get a job elsewhere, he simply doesn’t wanna fire him because his ego won’t allow him to move on from his disciples.

Rumph was a CB’s coach at Miami for 5 years, along with 8 years of NFL playing experience, he’s from South FL & coaches a position that is one of the most highly sought after prospect pools in the recruiting world, the South FL Cornerback. If he were good at his job, regardless of how he performed during his tenure at Miami he could very easily get a job at hundreds of other schools who all recruit & covet South FL CB’s. Paul Williams for God sakes is CB’s coach at Wake Forest & he was horrendous at Miami. The point I’m making is, Rumph should easily be able get a job coaching at a bunch of programs if he were actually any good at it.

Overall, this all just shows that Diaz is in over his head & doesn’t really have a full grasp of what he’s doing.
He’s trying to create a coaching tree, without none of the leaves ever falling & none of the fruits actually producing lol.

He’ll be the first coach ever to have a Coaching tree where none of his coaches ever go anywhere else lol.

the people losing their minds about rumph because he's in a "recruiting role" are unreal. the guy is probably going to be shuffling around paperwork and compliance and whatnot but because you heard the word "recruiting" suddenly it's time to throw a tantrum.

Agreed.

I think it’s b/c so much stock is put into hope & when rumors don’t fulfill or come to full fruition, the first thing to do is panic; especially w/ our long standing close to 20 yr history.

It’ll all work it’s way out one way or another. My only fear, is we win another 8 games & it’s considered bueno and things remain status quo or another “tweak” comes.

Makes sense.

But if Rumph iz pointing out different guys he wanted that are better, it eould show he knows how to spot the right guys. Now will Manny lizten to him if this iz the case who knows.

I personally believe if Manny wasnt protecting Blake, Rumph would be gone.

People hate Rumph because of his recruiting failures. They are seeing this emotionally. I am looking at it different. I doubt every member of a recruiting department is a great dalesman. You need guys who can break down and evaluate players too.

Rumph is a starter on a national title team, high nfl pick that was in the league a few years, head coach at a major south Florida school and performed decently on field as a college position coach. A guy with that pedigree is obviously a pluz to the recruiting department as long as his job isn't selling to recruits, which he has proved he doesn't do well.
