I really think there were some who were hoping he’d back his way into 8-4 and make the ACC champ game.

So they could say it all went according to plan and site “progress”.

Class is f'd regardless. This is the least of the issues. Whoever it is will hit the portal hard for plug and play guys in a transition year. Just look at what Michigan State did to transform that team and we would not even need as many guys. We have good returning talent. If we can keep some of those from defecting we will be fine.

The recruiting class each year isn't as important anymore with advent of the portal. You can always plug holes with someone good enough until the next class....

I'm not exactly a leader in the Cristobal Cult but this is one area that I'd have no worries about him in the near term. Like you said, the next guy is absolutely going to have to pound the Portal and it's weird to say but we are going to have to hope he's remotely as adept at it as The Former Guy was.

I think some other names floating around (Kiffin, Aranda, etc) would be fine at it too but I do think this is where we might run into an issue with an "up and comer". Some of those names might be hot around here or anywhere where new coaches are needed but most would probably be essentially unknowns to prospective transfer players and their families.

The other key here is that we know that arguably the best talent is local relative to campus. There are a few that get away and for whatever reason want to return home. With the right guy we should be able to snag a few homesick 4-5 stars each year.

Not a Mario fan but he’d be dumb to leave his situation to come over here. Oregon will give him whatever he wants. Boy bout to use us for a fat pay raise. Prolly get his salary doubled

Yup it’s the Miami way put all our eggs in one basket and then come away empty handed.

So there are no other names? I think Mario is on top but doubt they don't have contingencies.

I mean there are other names but what I see coming is mostly attributed to the fact that Mario is gonna be in the playoff. You're not getting a final answer until Jan 1 if he loses in the 1st round. January 11 if he was able to win in the 1st round.

We're gonna completely miss ESD and drag this into January. Everyone else will be finalizing their search or be done with it. A lot of coaches don't want to move that late because they miss ESD and miss other assistants that are already moving to other jobs that were filled.

Drag it to January 1, Mario drags it out a couple days and ultimately says no.. it's Jan 5th and you don't have a HC and start from scratch. A couple guys already have raises from their schools, etc. Not a good situation.
