"We need to learn what it takes to win a football game..." (made this face 🤨) and said "sometimes it comes down to learning what it takes to lose a football game."

In 2017, we won a bunch of really close games by a bounce or two going our way.

In 2019, we've lost a bunch of really close games by a bounce or two not going our way.

The truth is, this is a pretty average football team all around. An above average defense (but not great), a below average offense, a very good punter, and the worst kicker in the country. Average. And it was the same way in 2017, just then we found a way to win those close games and everyone was happy and puffing their chests out, but those wins really just masked the reality that it's an average football program. These losses are just exposing what's been basically the same for 10+ years now.
This is not an average team. This is a team that is truly exceptional at finding ways to lose.

?? Is one close road game against UNC your rebuttle?
You said "EVERY game", so yes that was a complete rebuttAL to what you stated.

Also, we are not even remotely on Clemson's level right now, so dragging them into it is pretty meaningless. The rest of the ACC does beat up on each other and there are a lot of close games. We're just part of that.

wow... you're 'that guy'... okay.

And the rest of the ACC is utter garbage. A Hurricane team should be blowing them out.

Context is a wonderful thing.

Knowing how games are lost highlights the mistakes that contributed to the loss.

Finding ways to lose is not a thing. It's a mindless cliche.

We have lost because we are a mediocre team that has been unable to pull away from other mediocre (or worse) teams. And when you play close games, you will lose your fair share of them.

We've played 5 or 6 close games (not sure CMU really qualifies since our win % was close to 100% the entire game), and we've lost 4 of them. 5-6 games is a small sample size.

We're 3-4 but the team's performance is more like a 4-3 or 5-2 team. That's not to say we're a good team - we're not, we're mediocre - but it's not the dumpster fire that most fans think.

Unfortunately the losses still count, so hopefully that doesn't kill morale.

Defense was fine, but it was hardly a Top 5 team that season and the record was misleading.

Florida State and Georgia Tech were miracle finishes. Needed a late turnover to eke out a five-point win over a garbage 1-7 North Carolina team. Cuse was a one-point ballgame before Homer punched one in late. Virginia jumped out to two 14-point leads before Miami put it away in the second half.

Also, that Notre Dame game doesn't play out as it did if Miami rolled into that one 5-3 instead of 8-0; which brought GameDay, a primetime kickoff and raucous environment, etc.

To the other poster's point; Miami literally got every break in 2017—and hasn't gotten one in 2018 or 2019, outside of Virginia's red zone struggles two weeks ago.

Even if the record was smoke and mirrors, it was still the most exciting season we've had in a very long time.
