Manny (likely) staying (through the end of season, TBD thereafter)

They didn't go into detail because they are pulling a snow job. I wouldn't be shocked if UHealth is making a loan or one time cash infusion to the athletic department, using COVID related losses as some kind of cover story. That said, UHealth won't be consistently doing that, and the athletic department should be able to swim on its own, with competent leadership. No school in the country is straight up robbing Peter to pay Paul to subsidize athletics, unless there's a catastrophic loss(IE COVID). I'm sure that Miami athletics has a donor in the pipeline that is stepping up as well, making it palatable to the powers that be at UHealth. UHealth will not be tapping into their profits on a regular basis to fund a department that gets to keep EVERYTHING it makes, doesn't have to share a dime with anyone else and when things are going well can be quite cash rich(relatively speaking).
Give it up. Take your L and move on.

The only problem is that if he gets to the championship game he won’t be fired, and we will have another wasted year. If they fired him after unc the path forward would be clear.
But does it really matter at this point? The BOT and admin have been forced to focus on athletics, Snake James has been exposed and is a lame duck, and there's a better than average chance we'll end up with a proven coach in the near future.

How about we hire a basketball coach that isn't a senior citizen? Hire a coach that can build a long term program, instead of a guy that will cut every corner to win now, long term viability be damned? You have a solid base of talent with what L has brought in. You get some bigs worth a **** and you can possibly be back in the tournament in year one, provided L retires after this season(Which is a very distinct possibility, considering what I've heard from some people with knowledge of the program).
Let's hope so. This team is going to get murdered in ACC play. You cannot get outrebounded 18-2 on the offensive boards against a Division 2 squad and expect to be competitive in conference play. Jim has run out of excuses. Even for Miami four consecutive losing seasons whatever the excuses should be termination.

I don't know. Losing a conference championship game and then whatever bowl game would make them 8-6 at best and I doubt he's coming back.

Your right. They’ve already reached out to potential coaching hires, and it looks like they know where they’re going for athletic department leadership… so that’s all good. BUT..
When it comes to this program I’m paranoid, snd can see them putting the brakes on everything if Manny wins out.

If that happens and Manny fails again, the humiliation would be even worse. They have to make a change.

BUT…. Uhealth was her baby, and it’s the reason there’s money for football…
UHealth just started making money in the last couple of years after bleeding the U dry for years...

...and not a dime of UHealth money goes to the athletic programs... only gain is from stemming the money that was being bled to pay for UHealth liabilities..

Really annoying he didn’t get canned after UNC…wasted year, and next year if they keep Manny will be another wasted year. What needs to be done inevitably should happen immediately…the rest of the season after UNC woulda been a **** of a lot more enjoyable with Diaz gone.

No No No GIF

No!!!!!!!!! He should not get the right to “fix” another fuvk up! That would be a ridiculously insane pattern of ineptness.
Not arguing, but since when has this admin done the right thing?

Uhealth had a profit of $300M last year and is the reason why they’re allowing athletic department to go back to how they used to operate in terms of using general fund.

Not defending her, just pointing out the irony

Manny Navarro is a hack though

I always liked Manny—Navarro, not Diaz—but not a fan of The Atlantic's over-push to get subscribers and the type of writing they have their writers do to bait people in. Preferred Navarro at The Herald when he could be Barry Jackson-like at times, due to proximity to program and players.

It’s the headline writers who suck. He’s still has the same access.

I think if Manny wins out, which is unlikely based on his track record, there’s no chance he gets fired. Especially with Mario currently in the driver’s seat for a playoff spot.

The issue with playing young guys is that you’re bound to get inconsistent play. Inconsistent play plus awful defensive gameplanning all but guarantees us to drop a game that we shouldn’t.
Consistently bad play combined w awful defensive game planning guarantees u drop 3 games u shouldn’t.

I can’t argue with that. But it has to change and I believe this is the best opportunity for it to ever happen.
Of course. But the worst case scenario, and the most likely one if Diaz wins out, he stays. Then we better hope he hires a DC. We would be stuck with him.
