Manny Diaz putting too much pressure on new DB's

Malek Young should start over that Delaney kid. #3 looked way too slow to be starting at Miami as a CB.

Our problem is our safeties way to slow

I agree with that as well.

And everyone was salivating over JJ's film and all I saw was a slow player that would struggle in the ACC and i got abused for it. People were acting like dade comp was acc caliber and its not its good but the speed of the game from HS to college is a bigger jump from college to pros.

Hope they play better but cannot I cannot wait for Jobe and Hall when I watch there film there fast and got great instincts and jump off the screen. They look like miami defensive backs

I think he eventually shifted to a zone coverage because it looked like when we where playing man Dee Delaney was getting beat badly. Truth be told if you're Manny Diaz isn't this sort of the week where you practice different play calls because there is a 0% chance you can lose?

Delaney had a rough day...
we always left the RB open for a check down with room to run.
Could be first game jitters could be something else, let's see if we improve vs Arky state....
Then go full bore into FSU week

While the stat line of 41-13 might look alright on the box score, it doesn't tell the whole story. Defense lacked juice today and I'll chalk it up to playing a team like BCU. If we had played a better team today I don't think we end up with a W so it's a good thing we can fix our mistakes now.

Manny Diaz gimmicky blitz heavy defense did not do what we all expected. I wonder if he is putting too much pressure on this new crop of DB's by blitzing so much. We seem to be playing a heavy zone blitz scheme which can work if the pressure gets there fast enough. However, BCU's offensive coordinator was able to take what he saw in film and dissect us underneath. We are leaving 3-5 in coverage which exposes the hard flats and middle of the field which the BCU QB used very well when feeling the pressure.

If the defense is to work, the pressure needs to amount to multiple sacks/TFL or at least containment when the pocket collapses. We saw neither today. In the first drive we blitzed way too much on obvious running downs and failed to keep contain. The DB's looked lost all game and if they had a QB with a good arm we would have been shredded far worse.

I hope changes are made and we run a more vanilla 4-3 base man defense next week, Ark State has to be licking their chops on the underneath game.

It funny how we all laughed at the comment a coach made about the defense being to gimmicky. Welp it doesn't seem like they were talking out of their butt after all. There is film on our defense now from today and last season so I think more people will do exactly what BCU did to us from here on out to exploit it. If Manny can't adjust now that people know his tendencies and style he won't be here long. He need to cut down on the random blitzing when we have a good defensive line, he need to get the LB to spread out closer to the slot WR so it not 1 CB vs 2 blockers on screens, and better outside containment.

Drove me NUTS! And didn't adjust!

Left it open all game long!

This is why many folks didn't like the Diaz hire. Fuentes made those comments about his defense. It is easy to exploit. I can't see how defense gets fixed in 1 week. You can't fix a slow, un athletic secondary.

If he had a rough day against Bethune Cookman, then we're f**ked when we take on a team that can actually play.

Mouth breathers were trying to say JJ is then Jenks and Carter. LOL.

Agreed. Diaz really put our Dbs on the spot against those twitchy Buffoon receivers.

at the end of last season i was excited about diaz and the defense. then i rewatched the games several times, came away very unimpressed with diaz. he blitzes too much and exposes the defense behind the blitz. was hoping the second year would be better. guess not. looks like the 3rd down conversion ranking will stay in the 60's nationally.

We lost 4 starting DB's (all who made 53 man rosters). Anyone who thought we weren't going to feel it is fooling themselves.

Delaney aka Toast Delaney, really looked lost in press coverage, good tackler, but hope the Toast nickname does not stick.

Yes Delaney had a rough series but the physical ability is there he just has to get used to playing at Miami speed. The other corners such as Young the coverage is the quick athlete turnover machine. Bandy fast athletes nose for the football. Jackson physical and has some speed. Only concerns for the secondary is getting Delaney to play up to miami speed fast as possible and our safeties. We don't have miami top end speed safeties just yet until next year so they have to study bring top level energy to always be in position and don't miss tackles to make up for that.

Might be a wild thing to say, but can Delaney play some Safety this year? Apparently has a knack for the ball but if struggling in man...can roam the field instead.

Defense was on the field for 35mins vs 25mins for the offense. BC also had 19 first downs and had more passing yards than Miami, albeit one yard. The point is the defense was a liability today. Manny better be going ape **** over those stats.

Agreed, I thought at times he was just better off going with a four man rush. A lot of the pressures he brought opened up the flat for huge gains

Which begs the question where were the adjustments in the 2nd half? I felt the staff did a good job adjusting in the 2nd half and shutting teams down last year. BCU continued to do what they were doing in the 2nd half too.

We lost talent.. that's for sure. But you can't have this bad of a performance against a HS team with two transfers and multiple upperclassmen in the secondary. Diaz is fools gold.
