Manny Diaz New DC

MSU's recruiting rankings the last 5 years to give you an idea of what type of players he's had to work with
(general idea, no O or D breakdown):
2015- 16th
2014- 37th
2013- 26th
2012- 30th
2011- 44th

Isn't this the same excuse people gave Golden for crap results at Temple?

We just found out that Aranda was offered but we lost out so Richt panicked and hired Diaz.

I'm not jumping up and down over this hire, either.
Someone up top asked about recruiting.

Less interpolation here with Diaz then with AG.

I wanted Aranda. Crystal clear results.

We offered Aranda one million a year for three years according to Pete. LSU still got him. Right made the right move but it didn't work out. Still got a big upgrade over what we've had and it's back to an aggressive scheme that fits our players.

Manny Diaz defensive rankings (total/scoring)

2010 MSU: 49th/22nd
2011 UT: 11th/33rd
2012 Texas: 69th/74th
2013 Texas: incomplete, was fired after giving up 550 rushing yards to Baylor
2014 LA Tech: 32nd/54th
2015 MSU: 36th/58th

These are absolutely terrible numbers folks. He doesnt have a single elite season to fall back on. Not a single example of being a great DC.

Here's whats scary: Mark D'Onofrio has more top 25 finishes in his career than Manny Diaz. That's right, you read that correctly.

11th in total defense isn't elite?

K.

LOL so he had one time in his entire career where he got close to the top 10 in total D. ONE TIME. Yet still was was middle of the pack in scoring d that same year. No defense that is 33rd in scoring D is elite.

Why aren't you posting the rank of the defenses at LA Tech & MSU the years before he got there? Bother looking? (Insert "But TEXAS!!! BUT TEXAS!!!" comments here.)

Also, how do you know that Richt "panicked?" You know him personally? Why didn't he consult you on this hire man, you seem to know more than him. I would've definitely consulted you if I was him... getting paid millions of dollars to do what he does, but that's just me.

Why is everybody crying? Its done. Support it & move on. Miss St had a formidable D with less talent worse assistants against a much better schedule then we'llschedule. chill the **** out

Who cares what they were the year before? I'm supposed to jerk off to a guy who takes wretched defenses and makes them average?

He's never coach an elite defense ONCE in his career.

Fullyericht is acting like richt didn't go after Aranda.... He pursued and lsu probably offered more, nothing more you can do about it

I'd imagine when Texas added him he was a pretty hot commodity and then he caught some of the stink of that sinking ship. Very few "stud" coordinators out there so I'm not going to be disappointed that couldn't snag a unicorn. I like that he was brought back to a team he'd previously coached (MSU) because that would seem to imply they thought highly of his time there before leaving. That move was also made by a coach who was one of the other finalists for this job whom many think highly of (Mullen).

So bottomline? Love the attacking 4-3 coming back. Like that he has experience turning teams around and has a proven track record generating TFL & sacks. Doesn't seem like a grandslam genius but he already has a great DL coach and should get top talent down here for what he tries to do. Much better than hiring a first time DC (as many suggested doing with Raymond/Kool).

LMAO this thread is funny

So we went from Golden, Dorito, Melvin, Williams to Richt, Diaz, Kool and anybody and we are complaining. Where is the Piñata we are going to have a party. Swasey is gone also like most of you wanted. Bring out the modelo's also!!!!!

You can up the offer. You can sell him on being Associate HC, on working with the best DL coach in america. You can negative recruit LSU. It's no different than lnding a top recruit. You either got him or you failed. There's no participation trophies.

LSU took Moffitt from us. They took Aranda when we wanted him bad. They are a school that gets it done, while we go hiring corches. Rinse and repeat.

Stated another way: a guy who makes a bad defense better. Is that not what we are after here? Is that not what Aranda was going to do, make this defense better? Yeah, this dude is no Aranda, but since Texas he has been hotly trying to become a commodity, let him do that here for a year or two and move the **** on, we can get an elite DC when he's gone.

Or are we saying that Richt MUST win a National Title next year or in his second year? I'll happily take bowl games that matter (and wins) while we undo the wreckage done in the last decade. Maybe I'm just too focused on the long-term of the program rather than the short term.

This is the new age Cane fan ******ry.

Don't try to win titles. Just be a little less bad. PATHETIC.

So, all the neutral "pundits," "experts" and people who get paid to analyze this, love the hire. Miami fans on a message board hate it. Seems legit.

I'm not against the hire. But those "pundits" and "experts" also thought Golden was a good coach. So to take their word as any gospel would be just as foolish as to take most of us for experts.

I always get those UGA DC's confused...is Diaz the one Richt FIRED once upon a time and who's defenses got lit up consistently or am I confusing him with someone else?

This a pretty pathetic post...it's almost something I would expect Don Bailey Jr or some other tool on the payroll to post.

I recommend you go root for another team with your neutered expectations.

We have an experienced JUNIOR QB returning and we play in the ACC Coastal. The goal is nothing less than 10 wins and a BCS bowl next year...anyone who says less just because we've had 3 of the worst head coaches in division 1 the last 10 + years is a kiss-***. A good coach can make an immediate impact in modern day college football so yes...those are the expectations.

Here's something I don't understand. When people say Diaz boarded a sinking ship at UT.....

In 2005 and 2006, when Coker was basically drowning our program, Randy Shannon field top ten defenses BOTH SEASONS.

So either Randy is the greatest DC of all time, or Diaz doesn't get to use Mack Brown as a crutch as to why his entire career has been mediocre.
