For all the idiots saying "yay attacking defense!" allow me to explain how his defense attacks:
Via the zone blitz. This means that you will be seeing AQM dropping into zone coverage. This means a defense that is VERY confusing and often takes years to implement properly.
What you won't see is 4 men on the line just getting after it with man coverage behind.
Congrats, the mouthbreathers got what they want: a mediocre to poor DC who runs a 4-3.
Why are people mistakenly under the impression that you have to have an elite defensive coordinator to have an elite defense?
Would it help? Sure, but is it a necessity? Nah. What is, however, a necessity, is having a guy who will maximize the talents of the jimmies and the joes. I honestly don't know enough about Manny to know if he can get it done.
It's hard to overlook his tenure at Texas, but that place was and still is an absolute dumpster fire. He did some impressive work at Miss State. Hopefully with the attacking style he will be able to utilize the athletes on defense. His saving grace, will probably end up having the best d-line coach in the country. Now if we can get Raymond or a killer good DB coach the defense may actually be #trendingup .
He runs the Bill Young system, which as we know takes about 3 years to install. This is horrible horrible news for anyone who wants a simple scheme where the DL just rush the passer. Look forward to seeing Chad Thomas dropping to the flat.
