Manny Diaz hype!!

Mark whiplle cost us that 2010 season running that dumb *** offense that jacory nor any other q.b could be successful in.

Our defense came to play all season. Jacory threw four picks vs osu but the defense came to play. We dropped four pics on Pryor that day too.

The guy wrenching play was being in the red zone with life. And having the **** tackle pick the ball on the 1 yard line. That deflated me. That 9- 4 could have easily been 11- 2 with the likes of, even someone average, jedd fisch

Especially with the way the defense was playing. Pretty sure we had a top 5 if not number 1 pass defense as well

Al's defenses improved offenses so much he started coaching offense

Al kept Mike London employed 3 years longer than he should've been. He made Frank Beaner feel like a young man again. If Everett Golson was a Jr/Sr when we played ND, he would've got him drafted in the 1st. He took Paul Johnson off the hot seat at GT. Made Tommy Tuberville look like a genius at Cincy. Single handily gave Dabo a lifetime contract at Clemson. Made Bill Snyder regret he ever retired the first time around. I mean his coaching tree is super impressive.

What's crazy is Mississippi State only had 4 more sacks than Miami, yet were ranked 86 spots higher than Miami in TFL's.

I'll give em' the BOTD for now, but I've never been impressed by Diaz's defenses. He's just a more aggressive version of D'Onofrio.

Miami went 7-6 in 2010 and Randy Shannon got fired.

Love all the defensive gurus here. Tackles for loss are great but if that's all you care about, you'll still have a terrible defense. Texas A&M, Arizona State, Washington State, and Baylor were all ranked in the top ten in TFL but they played pretty poor defense overall.

Also, setting the edge and holding the point of attack are important aspects of any defense. If you want to stop the run, especially in short yardage, you need to do those things. If you just blindly blitz and shoot gaps, any decent offensive coordinator will eat you alive.

Pair him with kuligowski who had mizzou in the top 10 for tfl in the sec man oh man lol

Having trouble with the concept that al's defense got better at anything, even marginally. Is it possible that the total number of schools in the NCAA dropped from 108 to 96 over that time period?

Actually they increased from about 120 to 130.

This seems like nice stats for Diaz. Didn't realize his TFL stats were so great. Knew they were good but didn't realize they were at the top so often.

He's pretty much the polar opposite of Donofrio as DC. And yes some people criticize Diaz as too aggressive. With that being said finding a happy medium is almost impossible.

We were top five in not rising to the occasion vs top 25

Golden always preached, "You dont rise to the occasion, you fall back on your training." thank god he is out of here.

What about his preaching of McDonald's cheeseburgers?

I actually agreed with him that McDonald's cheeseburgers and Al Golden football share a lot in common.

Because they're both consistently awful.

I'm as excited as anyone to watch our players run an attacking scheme and coach Kool was a home run. In terms of how successful it will be here depends on the secondary. For Diaz to take the next step and make his defense dominant, his secondary and the coverages and calls he makes behind that bloodthirsty front seven will determine his future as a DC.

Agreed.

Coach Kool was a grand slam forget about home run. I'm a bit lukewarm on Diaz but we'll see what happens. Diaz has a pretty good resume except for his one bad year at Texas.

We were #1 in TFL in 2010? The same year we gave up 45 to FSU? Wtf...

I remember that game. J12 earned my respect that game. First, he was horse-collared to begin the game on a nice run...no flag! Now hurt, he stood in that pocket and the receivers dropped pass after pass. **** Hankerson!

I agree. Diaz' Defenses are mediocre/average at best. Blitz enough and you will get TFLs......while giving up 400 yards per game.
