Manny Diaz hype!!

Mark whiplle cost us that 2010 season running that dumb *** offense that jacory nor any other q.b could be successful in.

Our defense came to play all season. Jacory threw four picks vs osu but the defense came to play. We dropped four pics on Pryor that day too.

The guy wrenching play was being in the red zone with life. And having the **** tackle pick the ball on the 1 yard line. That deflated me. That 9- 4 could have easily been 11- 2 with the likes of, even someone average, jedd fisch

Especially with the way the defense was playing. Pretty sure we had a top 5 if not number 1 pass defense as well

That is True! The 2010 Defense was Stout........but got no support!

I'm as excited as anyone to watch our players run an attacking scheme and coach Kool was a home run. In terms of how successful it will be here depends on the secondary. For Diaz to take the next step and make his defense dominant, his secondary and the coverages and calls he makes behind that bloodthirsty front seven will determine his future as a DC.

Agreed.

Coach Kool was a grand slam forget about home run. I'm a bit lukewarm on Diaz but we'll see what happens. Diaz has a pretty good resume except for his one bad year at Texas.

I agree. Diaz' Defenses are mediocre/average at best. Blitz enough and you will get TFLs......while giving up 400 yards per game.

Which will be refreshing after 0 TFL and giving up 500 yards per game.

True. But DTP was right. I got 09 record mixed up with 2010.

But i think we could have easily been 9-4 or 10-3 in 2010.

Hard to have TFL when safeties are 35 yards back and you are worried about setting the edges. Golden and Dorito got us to play scared-something that will never ever happen again under Diaz and co.

Dude, an average defense equates to two more wins. If you take Texas out of the equation his defenses improve the year he took over from his predecessor. It's definitely a high risk, high reward defensive mindset.

And Miami still gave up way too many explosive plays with blown coverage after blown coverage, **** poor tackling, horrible angles.

Look at that improvement in four years, from 108 to 96. Al really had it trending in a good direction. Only 30 years until we would've been top 10 in tfl.

that what pillars and blaming kids for **** schemes will get you instead of attacking and whooping @ss

Wonder why nobody is talking about total defense, pass defense, and 3rd down defense...

Wonder why nobody is talking about total defense, pass defense, and 3rd down defense...

In some cases that's a facade too see Miamis 2014 donofrio defense which was ranked 14th in total defense yet it seemed like we were gashed almost every game

Wonder why nobody is talking about total defense, pass defense, and 3rd down defense...

3rd down conversion % - 37.4 vs our 41.7
Pass Defense - 60.78%, 6.6 YPA, 225 YPG vs our 60.45%, 6.5 YPA, 218 YPG
Total Defense - 402 YPG, 5.3 YPP vs our 432 YPG, 5.9 YPP

Also, Miss St was 28th in the nation at 0.316 points per play on defense vs Miami's 79th at 0.413. Miss St gave up 7.8 pts per 1st quarter, 6.8 in the 2nd, 6.1 in the 3rd, and 3.4 in the 4th. Miami gave up 7.5, 8.7, 4.8, 9.6. Miss St had their D on the field for 33:16 per game which was 121st in the nation. Miami was 29:27 which was 54th. Part of that is that their offense was not that great even with a Sr Prescott.

If you want stats to cheer you up, then realize that Miss State gave up 2.6 offensive TDs per game which ranked them 30th. Miami gave up 3.4 which ranked them 73rd. Miss St was 11th in Red Zone Defense with a 72.50%. Miami was 89.36% which ranked them 107th. Miss St gave up 22.8 offensive points per game ranking them 36th. Miami was ranked 89th at 28.9 offensive points allowed per game. Miami gave forced 4.2 punts per game which was 107th in the nation. Miss State forced 5.4 which was 48th.

I will also add when you look at their 9.5 points given up per 2nd half you will see that that ranks 21st in the nation. Miami's 14.3 is 81st. Take what you want from all of this. I am a believer that the offense at MSU hurt Diaz's defense and he could produce some really good defenses at Miami and even a top 30 defense this year. However, I also realize that he runs some exotic blitzes that I am not a fan of at times. I've heard Richt mention that he'd love to sit in Cover 2 and Quarters coverage like the old Miami teams, so maybe he and Diaz talked about scheme and Diaz won't run some pressure packages for the heck of it and will instead rely more on Kul's DL and allow the back 7 to shut everything else down.

Hence, the opinion that Diaz needs to marry his blitz crazy, TFL hunting front seven to a lockdown secondary. Since we won't have that lockdown secondary this year I'm curious what Diaz does. Up until now Diaz has basically been all about sacks and TFLs yet he has neglected or not yet learned how to get 3 and outs and how to defend 3rd and long. You can have all the sacks and TFLs in the world but if your defense can't hold on 3rd down, you won't have a very good defense and that is exactly what Diaz needs to figure out. Which is why I was hoping for a veteran, knowledgeable and savvy DB coach. Well see how it works out.

We were #1 in TFL in 2010? The same year we gave up 45 to FSU? Wtf...

I remember that game. J12 earned my respect that game. First, he was horse-collared to begin the game on a nice run...no flag! Now hurt, he stood in that pocket and the receivers dropped pass after pass. **** Hankerson!

I just remmeber their weak *** Rb gushing us and their fullback Pryor shaking ray ray out his shoes for a couple of tds... I left work early for that ****
