Manny Confirms Blake Baker is Still calling the Defense

Do you think it needs a system overhaul or just replacing certain coaches?

you can run the same front but the fire zone scheme needs to be tweaked. We are way too predictable for half the game..hire somebody who runs and attacking 4-3 but let them do it their way
I’m assuming you’re talking about our zone blitzes. I’m good with either, but I’m much easier to please lol win games and recruit good to great players. Whichever way gets it done.

I am. And I don’t have a problem with some blitzes I have a problem with OUR zone blitzes. We should be bringing pressure the same way Clemson does

We held VT to two touchdowns below their scoring average.

Defense, despite the CIS hysteria, has played about two halves of really bad football all season.

Got to keep getting better cause two huge late season tests are coming in Wake and UNC,
Roche played every snap. Phillips played 72 of 75 snaps. Nesta played a crazy amount for a DT along with Ford..Hats off too S&C because they kept coming in the 4th. This D plays Hard no matter what CIS wants to believe

I’m confused as to why people don’t want to see Baker developing...

That is different than thinking he should be fired or shouldn’t be developing on our dime.

But other than it meaning he’s not getting fired, why would it be bad if Baker actually was calling the plays ....

There’s a jump to conclusions for ya. We talkin coaches doe... not whether the DLine tries and plays hard. They do. So do other players.

It’s a hypothetical right now to confuse the masses and deflect attention away from the situation Manny’s dealing with by the Slurpaholics. Some highly reputable posters (LCE, Canes Brotherhood... and others) have said that Manny has been calling the plays on defense. I don’t know to what extent. Manny didn’t admit that - for obvious reasons - in an interview - so now the Slurper army is circling with defensive positions in place. It will literally work itself out at the end of the season.

Why everyone keeps jumping on the defense, they played better than the offense did.
We held Vatech below their season averages in points and rushing.

I’m very aware of what y’all talking about lol. I think we are very limited to what we can do based on the skill set we have/lack at the 2nd and 3rd levels..now overall in the grand scheme you can say that coaching because those are the guys u recruited. But this is very much a bend don’t break D

This is why you are an executive at CIS. Your leadership is admirable, firm, yet fair.

I think we can all agree something changed in the 4th quarters of the last two games. The defense played more man defense, was more aggressive and was playing with more passion.

I think manny got more involved in what was called and the proof is pretty obvious in the change in aggressiveness. He might not have called plays but was heavily involved in what was called.

We were playing alot of zone to keep eyes on hooker and it worked ok but he was completing easy passes. That changed when we started playing man and let the front four do it's work along with blitzes from couch, frierson and brooks.

Again, what is this "situation" being deflected?

Is it the 7-1
Is it the Top 10 ranking
Is it the points and rushing yds allowed vs VT being so low
Is it the WR group finally taking off
Is it the open competition week to week

What is it he's so diligently being protected from?

You are trying to grasp at whatever straws on the defensive side of the board that you can to deflect away from what 90% of this board knows - that Manny will need to change the DC and other coaching positions on D at Season’s end if he wants to grow and succeed.

Here is a news bomb for you. 90% of the posters on this site, me included, would just shrug and go on with their day if Baker was fired at the end of the season. There is no allegiance to him by anyone. There are no Baker groupies.

I for one don't think Manny is calling the majority or even a quarter of the plays. I do think he gets much more active as the game progresses and at crunch time. I also think Manny is trying to mold him in his own image. If he fires him he obviously decided he can't, if he doesn't he likely thinks he can and is being patient.

When I was defensive coordinator, the input from guys like Ephraim Banda, Jonathan Patke, and Mike Rumph…we have all been together in the scheme for so long and we have all seen the same things. We have guys that have been together since 2011, so that communication is going on and we have great ideas from everybody on the staff. I am really excited about the way we are getting better on defense and the way those guys are playing—and we needed it. We needed to make plays and Blake made some great calls to get after the quarterback in that game.”
Oh shiggitty ...
