He's right that the players have to get tougher and play harder. But he better get it done too. It's not all on the players.
Love the way all that sounds. Like the pressure he puts on players. Appreciate that he mentions coaching accountability, too.
I'd only say that there's enormous pressure on him to make sensible decisions. We were on one side of the pendulum with reactiveness and overall passive play. The answer to that isn't "go whole hog" and if we miss "f it, at least we're risky." Be smart. Don't lay it on a corner or Safety to bat .1000 on tackles on the edge.
From watching all of his games last year, I mentioned in a thread months ago that his defense is hit or miss - dependent on the pressure created by the front. The talk is great, but I hope he'll continue to evolve as a playcaller and big swinger. On defense, even the very best blitz guys in the NFL blend it in well. And, these are college players he's working with. So, can't expect them to just grasp wild complexity.
Despite all the talk about increased pressure and attack, my initial fear and what I'll be looking at is how teams run the ball against us. And, that's because of the pressure Coach Diaz has historically placed on very specific roles/positions on his defense.
Plenty of failure coaches have made a habit of calling out players. There's nothing new or unique to Diaz calling out players. Folden and D'Oritos did it all the time. He's right that the players have to get tougher and play harder. But he better get it done too. It's not all on the players.
You think he doesn't know this? This isn't anything groundbreaking here...this is why he is laying the groundwork now. Calling these overhyped players out and trying to motivate them. He knows his *** is on the line if we don't start beating FSU and taking the Coastal by the balls quickly.
Everything that he said is something that I can relate to when I was playing and coaching as a younger guy. I love that he is speaking so openly about the psychological aspect of the game.

Diaz needs to do his job at an elite level. He's never come close to doing that. He shares a lot of the same failure to reach expectations as our players.
One important take away I had was the R. Jenkins bit. We need him or Carter to finally put it together.
LOL. You don't need to give me permission to do anything, son. Go fck yourself. If you have no issue with that Mississippi State defense, then you never watched them play or have no clue what you're watching.Plenty of failure coaches have made a habit of calling out players. I have no issues with his defenses at Miss State...nor should you. That's a **** team in a tough conference. The rest go ahead and have at it if it makes you feel better. I will let this guy coach a real snap in a Canes polo before judging.

Well yeah, but what you’re trying to do is get those guys uncomfortable with being good players. Good is the enemy of great. Yeah, OK, congrats. You’re a good player.
“If that’s all you want to be, that’s all we’re going to be. A good program — 8-4 is a good year. You’re trying to break them of that. It’s way harder to get from good to great than it is from bad to good.”
IMO this is probably the most important quote. I think this is the mentality that Golden has left in them, not just the defense, but the entire team. If we can make them strive to be great and work their *** off to achieve it, I don't think it'll matter what schemes we run, the talent we have will win us more games than we ever did with Golden. We've always been the most talented team in the Coastal division, and always will be. Soon we will be the most talented team in the conference as a whole, it's just a matter of if the players will go out there and take the championship.
I swear some of you guys want Diaz to fail.
