Manny’s first real test as HC..,

His first move in this specific area was hiring a coach players apparently respect. Enos knows QBs. He has a track record. He's up to date with modern skills, drills and schemes. I know that sounds like what should be a given and a low bar, but cot**** if we weren't below it in recent years.

I’m truly curious if little Richt was even qualified to be a grad assistant.

I think he’s done an incredible job so far. His work in the portal was legendary and completely turned around what was a sketchy 2019 signing class.

He’s been phenomenal in the PR dept. too.

I’m not sure all of his assistant hires were the best, but we’ll see there. I thought he could have brought in another recruiting savage or two.

All in all, the dude’s been a solid A hire so far. He’s going to need to carry all this momentum into the field and show incredible leadership and steady motivation.

The great HCs all have one thing in common—they get their team to play at a very steadily high effort/intensity level all season. You don’t see the wild ups and downs in effort that we’ve seen here over the last 20 years.

He was able to keep the defense motivated to play at a high level despite the offense ****ting the bed last year. Can he get the whole team to buy in is the question. I think he can, but we won’t really know for sure until they face some adversity.

Have a funny feeling we’re going to be pleasantly surprised by the pick at QB and how Manolo manages Week 0 versus the hated Gayturd. It’s going to be our vault into the Top 25 and higher that I’m interested in seeing how he manages the kids and the program. Lord knows we’ve climbed that hill several times these past 15-20yrs only to slide completely down the other side, and out of the polls. It will be inherent upon Diaz, Baker, and Enos to maintain the right amount of pressure on the kids as such that we don’t have longer than a game slide, because we all know we aren’t going undefeated in 2019. It’s going to be how quickly and decisively he has them turn it around and winning that next game that will help define his first season at the helm. If Diaz gets the kids focused again and heading back in the right direction, then this could be a special start, and season, for Diaz, his coaching staff, and the players. I think he does it, and we don’t lose but a game here or there on our way to Charlotte to take on mighty Clemson. By then,, with the way the offense and defense will be clicking, it truly will be anybody’s game.

Manny will prove what kind of leader he is by how engaged he keeps the backup QBs...

Agreed.

To a point. Manolo didn't pick Perry and Williams as personalities--they are obviously Richt hold overs (not bad/good just is). If one of them mopes, causes problems, and/or leaves there were elements of that from both (supposedly) long before Manny became HC. If one becomes a cancer, it will be of critical importance as to how Manny deals with it (i.e. get with the program young man or there is the door). Not defending Richt, but when Sambourghini was dismissed, lots of wailing and criticism for that move. Certainly has proved the correct choice based on what Sammy B hasn't done at all during his stops at what 200 other programs since?

Some people you just can't motivate or control no matter what kind of leader is in place.

Now, if Tate finishes 2nd/3rd, strips off all his clothes, runs around lighting locker room on fire, then collapses into a bowl of self-pity jello while sparking one off, that would be 100% on Manny.

I think Sabag does a good job of keeping two because QB2 is one injury away from "stardom". You never really hear about Baga's QB3 because that beta dude is just happy to be on team to say "I played at Bama". All the alphas who get relegated to Baga's 3-4 spot leave.

Four pages and I don't believe I saw mentioned the distinct possibility both the QBs will be out of here the minute they aren't named starters.

Legitimate chance that happens, especially Williams who seems to have had one foot out the door multiple times during his time here.

There may not be any holdover QBs left to manage.

I agree with the assistants comment but I love the Baker hire. To me showed he was more concerned with running the ship than the defense.

I agree with you on everything. I won’t lie, I wanted them to at least try and get Babers. But like you said, Manny has been grade A so far.

I also think Feeley was his best hire. Remember the people here griping because he didn’t come from Bama or LSU?

Agree 💯

If he learned anything under Richt, it was that HC and OC/DC are different jobs

And before you mouth breathers mention Andy Reid, Richt and son were no Andy Reid, or even Jimbo Fischer.

Between Perry and Williams (Martell appears least likely to transfer...just my gut), who do you think is the one more likely to stay if named QB2/3?

Based on prior history, I would guess Williams would be the one to go first. Perry, with his fairly checkered past could have bolted but chose to stick it out once already.

But honestly it's difficult to make an educated guess, especially at the QB position, where transfers are routine business today.

Any great leader is fully aware that your only as good as the people you surround yourself with. You hire great people, establish a vision, and remain engaged and support their efforts.

Manny knew he didn't have to re-invent the wheel on the defensive side. He hired a young up-and-comer with basically the same philosophy as his which will keep continuity on that side of the ball.

There's no doubt Manny knew a major upgrade was needed on the offensive side. He totally re-vamped the offensive coaching staff and made a splash hire in Enos. Manny's "specialty" has been defense. So he got a guy whose specialty is offense. I believe that Enos will have almost complete autonomy in the selection of the starting QB and Manny, as any great leader would, will support Enos' decision.

Yes, Manny will undoubtedly have to take the lead if any dissention arises in the QB room after QB1 is selected. However, he has a very competent coach in that room that will no doubt play a big role in keeping QB2 & 3 engaged.

Not mentioned in this thread is also the prospect qb #2 may still see considerable playing time as Enos adjusts the offense to take advantage of the diverse strengths of his qbs given game situations. 2 out of 3 qbs may not need to transfer if they don't start.

No better way to keep #2 engaged than knowing his number can be called in certain situations or to spark a lackluster offense. No better way to keep #1 focused and prepared each and every game.

I don't see an effect on the locker room. Since all have already redshirted, I'm especting whomever winds up 3rd to leave the program because he'd have to sit out 2020 at whatever school he transfers to if he stays in the program in the 2019 season.

Manny will prove what kind of leader he is by how engaged he keeps the backup QBs. If the guys who lose the job mope around and tear up the locker room and start breeding factions, then Manny didn’t do a good job.

His main job as HC is to be a leader of men. He has guys in place to run the O and D. It’ll be interesting to see how the QBs (and their factions) handle not winning the job. It should be a fairly easy job to keep them engaged, as the winner shouldn’t be automatically anointed for the next 3 years.

I remember a couple years ago Sabag started that stiff who transferred 20 times then went to Hurts after 2 series. I think Helton started that Max Brown kid in that same game then wound up eventually going to Darnold, who was infinitely better.

He doesn’t have to be a psychologist.

Beat Florida and everyone will love the QB. Lose to the Gator and factions will form.

Simple.

Question should've been what will the fans do it their qb isn't starting.Manny has already shown everybody he isn't playing around.if players want to disrupt what Manny and co are trying to they'll be shown the door real quick like. He's already made some leave because they wouldn't fit his parameters.

I’m not talking about next year. He needs to be able to handle the disappointment THIS YEAR without letting factions develop. All great HCs are great psychologists first and foremost.
You might as well get ready for some disappointment because no coach no matter how good he is can't fix the last 18 yrs of mediocrity we've had in 6 months or 1 season.
