Mallory returning next season

This is a win/win. It’s awesome to have Mallory and Arroyo as your two starters.

Arroyo should be 50/50 im snap counts with Will already. He’s a potential high first rounder and complete mismatch for the defense. At the same time, Will hás a ton of upside and comes through with clutch catches in most cases.

I am a big Mallory fan. But he did not put in the work in the off season. Came in out of shape, was distracted early in the season for whatever reason. He has to get stronger and much better at blocking. This is his shot, if he seizes it the Canes are going to have a potent weapon.

Arroyo will see 2 snaps, Mallory the remainder and finish with 1 catch.
This is close to what will probably happen.

How these coaches cannot see the advantage that they have by using Arroyo and Mallory in two TE sets consistently is perplexing.

Very mature young man. Read this quote.

When asked about his decision to return for the 2022 season, Mallory was quoted as saying, "I still have not accomplished all of the goals I set for myself at UM. I told myself that I would make contact on at least one block before my college career came to a close. Im hopeful that I can achieve this goal over the next 14 months.

There was a play duringt he game when i guess they ran him in motion across the formation as the lead...and my man Mallory just ran straight towards the sideline didnt touch a soul. Guess he was the decoy lmaoo

Hopefully there will be a battle for TE1 next season between him and Arroyo
I don't even think it's going to be a battle. Barring injury, Arroyo should pass him up. Arroyo is just much more talented. You can see it on the field. Arroyo is just so much more natural and fluid in his movement and he is already a much better blocker. The kid is elite. The only thing holding Arroyo back is experience but the rest of the season plus a full off season should be more than enough to propel him to TE1 status. Mallory makes for an experienced, quality TE2. In retrospect although Mallory was a very good prospect in his own right, it seems as though we really overestimated his ceiling and put much too high expectations upon him and I'm as guilty as anyone in that regard. What we need is more depth at the position. I don't expect much out of Hodges and I'm not sure what to expect from Brantley outside of special teams. We need another TE with starter level upside.

Mallory has been misused here. They put bad weight on him for the sake of adding weight, all in his upper body.

Should’ve let him get bigger at a normal pace and use him the way the Dolphins use Gesicki in the slot as a jumbo WR.

Mallory used to be a track athlete (10.99 100m) and they tried making him into something he’s not.

Mallory is a phenomenal athlete. Really good at the hurdles. Great kid too.

But to say he was misused is complete BS. At TE you either need to be a really good blocker or a really good catcher. Or somewhere in between. He can’t do either effectively. Very inconsistent. He wasn’t misused, he just didn’t develop into what he was projected to be.

Mallory doesn’t have the ball skills to play in that Gesicki role anyway.

Agree to disagree.

I’m not arguing he needs to be as successful as Gesicki, I’m saying that role is better suited for him than trying to put weight on him and putting him in-line.

He’s still bad at it, and now due to injuries and unnecessary weight, they took away what he did have which was athleticism.

HE WAS ALWAYS STIFF.

HE PLAYS ALOT IN THE SLOT. WHEN HE IS IN LINE ITS LIKE HE AINT BECAUSE HE IS USELESS

That's a very good way of putting it and I would have to agree with that assessment. Not everyone needs to be pumped up for the sake of being pumped up. Inexperienced head coach and S&C coach will make those mistakes. It is what it is.

That is what we do man.

It’s crazy that you guys think Mallory is misused when in actuality he’s limited. If there’s ever a guy we’re misusing it’s Elijah Arroyo. He can play at almost every spot out wide and we have him in doing the grown man blocking

Criminal him and Smith haven't got more touches. Hopefully not in the doghouse after the fumble.

I wanted his scholarship revoked when he dropped that TD against Michigan State, but he's been pretty clutch during the win streak. He made a really difficult catch in a key situation against Georgia Tech. I'm happy that he's turning it around.
That said, Arroyo needs a lot more snaps.

I think he was hurt all spring and a lot of summer/fall camp.
