Former Miami Hurricanes forward Malik Reneau has signed a deal to play with the Orlando Magic after going undrafted in the 2026 NBA Draft.



On Thursday afternoon, Malik Reneau announced the news on his Instagram. He signed with the Magic on an Exhibit-10 contract.

Reneau played a big-time role this season, leading Miami in scoring (18.9 PPG), while dishing out 2.1 assists and grabbing 6.5 rebounds. He shot 54.0% from the floor and 34.7% from behind the arc, while shooting 78.8% from the line.

All three Hurricanes from this past season: Tre Donaldson, Malik Reneau, and Ernest Udeh Jr., have all signed a deal with an NBA team this summer.

That's not necessarily true.

Orlando just lost their ONE draft choice (a frontcourt player from USF) to a broken ankle.

And I am NOT a fan of bringing back (F$U alum) Jonathan Isaac. Lord knows, any day now, Isaac could be out for the season with an ingrown toe nail.

But, yes, Malik has not gotten a lot of minutes yet. Hopefully that changes today.

Good points all-around. Malik is more of a scorer than those dudes so hopefully he can provide that from both of the forward spots. Seems like the magic have been favoring more seasoned older guys who were already apart of their gleague squad this summer so this could be a similar long-term plan they have for Malik where he ends up on a two-way going into next season.

2022: 17 players, including new draft picks Paolo Banchero and Caleb Houstan
2023: 22 players, including new draft picks Anthony Black and Jett Howard
2024: 18 players, including new draft pick Tristan da Silva
2025: 20 players, including new draft picks Jase Richardson and Noah Penda
2026: 20 players, including new draft pick Izaiyah Nelson

It's hard to stick out, or even get playing time. The Portland Trail Blazers are kind of the opposite, bringing in 13 players last summer and only 12 this summer.

Yeup, and dude has been injured all the time. The best ability is availability in today’s league. His defense wasn’t what it used to be either, but the owners/front-office seem to love him which is why he is one of the only players from his draft class still on his drafted team.

Recently listened to a Sean Sweeney interview and he talked about need to communicate clearly about spacing priorities and having a less ‘turn-based,’ offense. Should be interesting; I’m a big believer in the Bane-Franz-Paolo fit and the Suggs contract is descendingly structured which is super smart as he is the fourth or fifth guy depending on Anthony Black. Also makes Suggs easier to trade down the line if necessary.

I thought Jett Howard would be that extra 3&D guy for them but that plan never took-off. Tristian Da Silva provides some shooting but they def need more. Bringing back Vuc was a smart move because he can provide that as a backup 5. I think ideally the Magic need Jase Richardson to become their second best shooter next year.

I just noticed a lot of guys who turned pro a while ago on their team like ty ty Washington (who Jai Lucas coached at Kentucky and is actually Tru Washington’s younger uncle), Lester Quinones, Keon Johnson (2021 draft), etc. He didn’t end up playing but they signed Cam Reddish for the summer league too

Yeah we have one more spot available. Now monetarily? Idk about all that. We seemed to find the money for LJ so maybe the same can happen here.

 

I assume if he comes back, we will figure out money. Not sure how some of the guys at PF would feel about it. I know other teams would get better too but I adding an all acc player into our lineup would be incredible
