Malik McDowell 2014 5* DE is still Unsigned UM should offer

2014 5* DE Malik McDowell is still Unsigned despite committing to Mich St yesterday, his mother (Joya Crowe) won't sign his LOI. She wants him out of Michigan PERIOD and is willing to move to FLA with him.

Here is an article outling the whole affair.
Father encourages top recruit Malik McDowell to use broad vision as decision nears | The Detroit News

They have taken all 5 official visits (FSU, UF, Ala, OSU, & MSU) so UM would have to act quickly to close him without having gotten them on campus. It can be done using the recruiting videos from Canes All Access and having the coaches pitch her over the phone.

The parents have been extremely involved in his recruitment and quite informed about the process and what various schools have to offer.
The parents want him at either OSU or FSU (This was the moms preference she didn't visit the dad did. But she has family in Florida), Malik had a Top two of OSU or MSU. (apparently no one shared info about the 40+ players under Meyer who arrested for felonies)

The mother is looking for certain things in a school (Great academics, focus on football, an history of producing NFL talent! UM checks all of these) and recently go into a argument with MSU fans online.
Posting the following reply to a fans:

Joya Crowe to Matthew Harmon,
research African American students college party schools, research the defense coaches and tell me how many NFL players each have sent to the league in the position my son plays.

If athletes are only taking General Business at any school, blame the parents for allowing their child to be used.

This is not a decision for the MSU or UofM fans to make... It's sad how you all bash one another.
You all need to grow-up... Just because you read it on the internet doesn't mean it's true...

Here is the story STRAIGHT FROM THE MOM"S MOUTH in a Radio Interview (Joya Crowe)

this is why he won't be coming here it makes to much sense.

Absolute terrible parenting.

* and FSU are paying more and they are ****ed.

Terrible parenting? Because she wants a good environment, including good academics for her kid?

Wow! I think it's excellent parenting. If we had more parents like her, we would have kids who are more responsible, not having children while unmarried at the age of 16, and respectful of rules and norms of good behavior.

I was waiting for your appearance in this thread! Lol. At the end of the day, you can lead a horse to water but you can't make them drink. Educate, love, support your kid so they make the best decisions possible.. but it's their life.

will take more visits now because parent will not sign off on Mich St...

know we wont get him, but hopefully FSU doesn't

The five-star defensive end is reportedly considering visits to two of his finalists.

Five-star defensive end Malik McDowell has still not officially made his college decision, but is hoping to do so before the end of March, according to Rivals.

McDowell, the top player in the state of Michigan, announced his commitment to Michigan State over Michigan, Ohio State and Florida State on Signing Day. He did not send in his letter of intent, however, as his mother did not approve of the choice.

Now, the family is reportedly considering taking unofficial visits to both Ohio State and Florida State in order to attempt to resolve the issue. McDowell's father also told Rivals Michigan is not out of the picture yet, either.

McDowell's mother has legal guardianship, and he would need her signature to send in his letter of intent. However, he can still attend the school without her approval, by simply signing a financial aid agreement and enrolling at the university without a letter of intent

Lol at OP thinking we can recruit a kid by just showing him YouTube videos and talking on the phone

We got corn without him visiting, same for griffin

Griffin received no other NLIs from any schools besides Jucos and........ Diabeetus gut gulden.

and how the **** is that a negative? the reward outweighs the risk 1000-1

1000-0 really. What's the risk?

invested time... Almost no risk, that's the point.

UM needs to get the boy down here for a visit since they are willing to visit on their own dime.

This is not a development that Michigan State football fans will want to hear.

Malik McDowell, the five-star defensive end from Southfield who verbally committed to Michigan State on National Signing Day last week, might take unofficial visits to Ohio State and Florida State, his father told rivals.com.

McDowell’s family has not returned phone messages from the Free Press since before Signing Day.

McDowell’s parents, Greg McDowell and Joya Crowe, publicly stated their desire for Malik not to go to MSU before Signing Day. When he announced his decision for the Spartans on Wednesday morning, his father said he would support the decision, but his mother did not attend the ceremony at Southfield High.

MSU beat writer Joe Rexrode broke down McDowell’s options for attending MSU late last week. It could get complicated. Check it out.

Verbal commitments are nonbinding until a national letter of intent is signed and sent to a university. The McDowells have until the end of March to do so.

Today, Greg McDowell told Rivals that Malik is “open” to taking additional visits to OSU and FSU, who were his other finalists, along with Michigan. Greg McDowell said U-M is still in the picture, too.

"We plan on doing some unofficials and see if he and his mom can resolve this,” McDowell said. “It's possible she'll be open to Michigan State as well, so we'll have to see.

"We plan on getting down to Florida State as soon as possible, and with Ohio State being a three-hour ride, we'll drive over and sit down."

McDowell took his official visit to Florida State on Jan. 17 and his official visit to Ohio State on Jan. 31.

No reason why we shouldn't be burning up their phones.

Why is this thread even still going on? This is a three team race and we're not in it.
