2014 5* DE Malik McDowell is still Unsigned despite committing to Mich St yesterday, his mother (Joya Crowe) won't sign his LOI. She wants him out of Michigan PERIOD and is willing to move to FLA with him.

Here is an article outling the whole affair.
Father encourages top recruit Malik McDowell to use broad vision as decision nears | The Detroit News

They have taken all 5 official visits (FSU, UF, Ala, OSU, & MSU) so UM would have to act quickly to close him without having gotten them on campus. It can be done using the recruiting videos from Canes All Access and having the coaches pitch her over the phone.

The parents have been extremely involved in his recruitment and quite informed about the process and what various schools have to offer.
The parents want him at either OSU or FSU (This was the moms preference she didn't visit the dad did. But she has family in Florida), Malik had a Top two of OSU or MSU. (apparently no one shared info about the 40+ players under Meyer who arrested for felonies)

The mother is looking for certain things in a school (Great academics, focus on football, an history of producing NFL talent! UM checks all of these) and recently go into a argument with MSU fans online.
Posting the following reply to a fans:

Joya Crowe to Matthew Harmon,
research African American students college party schools, research the defense coaches and tell me how many NFL players each have sent to the league in the position my son plays.

If athletes are only taking General Business at any school, blame the parents for allowing their child to be used.

This is not a decision for the MSU or UofM fans to make... It's sad how you all bash one another.
You all need to grow-up... Just because you read it on the internet doesn't mean it's true...

00000000000 chance. Less of a possibility than that DT that went from ND to UCLA

I think it is disgusting for a parent to do this. Shame on the NCAA for allowing it.

He's either going to Michigan State, Ohio State or FSU.

His mom is the custodial parent and he is 17, she refuses to sign the MICH ST LOI, so they are out. That leaves OSU or FSU, he is not feeling FSU not to mention they are full! As for OSU she seems to be very big on environment and who will be molding her son, so I am sure no one has brought up the 45+ players arrested at UF for Felonies under Urban Meyer. She wants him out michigan because she feels he will gravitate to wrong sort at Mich St and she wants to move also.

So based on the research above and her actions I think if staff threw UM's hat in the ring we could stand a good chance. Remember UM didn't offer this kid at all up until not because we focus on S. Fla. Also UM offers the best of both world great academics, focus on football, nfl pedigree, and combo quiet town/big city atmosphere.

Isnt FSU pretty much filled up? They were greyshirting commits because they oversigned was the word a few days ago.

Did you not read the entire posting and linked article. Until you do so please refrain offering un informed opinions about potential recruits. The mother wants a better opportunity for he child away from local Michigan influences. Have you been to Detroit, unless you have then again please keep it positive in this thread.

If it were me, I'd let my mom know she can either sign the LOI now or I'll sign when I turned 18..

If the latter happens the don't expect your name to be left on any tickets at will call.

I read about this yesterday... and at the end of the day, it is his life, not hers. (LOL @ Ohio being any better)

i don't mind Paranos at all on these boards, i actually enjoy the insight from a different angle. There was another thread on any "Corn Elders" for this year and he potentially provided one.

Better than 95% of the other posters on here.

yeah pretty sure you have to be 21 to sign without your parent (Alex Collins fiasco), so yeah just waiting for 4 years isn't an option.

I don't know if anybody remembers but this is exactly how we got Kellen Winslow. his dad wouldn't sign his LOI and he wasnt 18 so he had to look elsewhere.now the reason his dad did it was because there weren't any black coaches on the team that he wantedto sign with. but still similar because Winslow really wanted to go there and Once
his dad made him look elsewhere we ended up getting lucky
