Malik Curtis 2021 Recruit (Thread Title Edited)

5'11/6'0 160lbs ATH from out of Fort Myers, goes to 3A school Bishop Verot.

Was originally at South Fort Myers HS then transferred to Bishop.

Had a good Junior year with 34rec 680yds 8TD's receiving, plus 271yds as a KR & 435yds as a PR, with 5TD's.

He's a great high level return man, versatile electric playmaker on offense, has great 4.4 speed & is a classic take the top off the Defense style WR, reminds me of Travis Benjamin.

No major offers as of yet, Miami is his very first.

I suspect that nothing has changed in terms of recruiting protocols. We seem to be taking the same type of commits we have been previously taking.

Why does Rumph continue to target WRs smh
In all likelihood it's not his call.

Rumph has had success landing 4-star OOS CB's last minute, but struggles immensely landing quality local Corners, it appears that Diaz lets Baker & Patke call the shots as to what kind of CB's he wants.

This eval & recruitment was Patke's, especially considering Curtis will be a Special teamer primarily.

Curtis is an outstanding return specialist & has good upside at Slot WR. At CB he'd be brand new to the position & would have to learn it from scratch. He's a take either way, but it speaks volumes that we can't find a kid who plays CB in HS & also has speed.

But that's where Miami is as a program right now, we operate on either side of extremes. We either get a CB who has ideal size but is on the slower slide, or have to find a WR with speed in an attempt to convert him to CB lol.

At the end of day we'll see how it works out. I think Marcus Clarke could eventually be a good CB once he learns the position, Curtis IMO will be a Slot WR all day.

Bro ... Who cares what position the coaches told him he'll play. As the smart ones would say, just get him on the team and figure it out later. **** it's only April... At least let the class fill out before you pop a vein in your head wondering what position he plays.

It's easy to say just get him here and figure it out later but by the time this staff figures out he should be on offense he will have 6 games of eligibility left.

I mean.... is it totally fubar to have a miami db that does returns and has a handful of O plays just for him?? Michigan never has a problem doing so.

It’s not a weak year. Stop covering for this trash staff
It’s not a strong year either. Going by 247 there is only 1 4 star cb in sfla this year and that’s marshall. Their rankings for the state of Florida only has about 4 corners from sfla ranked in the top 100 in the state.

What does this do for Patke's status amongst the faithful?

I could see Curtis in the slot...But think he may play more on the outside. I like him as a deep threat

This guy plays CB in high school, too.

The great Canes teams moved athletes to defense. Most of the 2001 secondary could score with the ball in their hands.

Plays defense part-time. You'd be hard pressed to find high school DBs that haven't played WR at some time during their life and most during their high school career.

I'm not opposed to trying him on defense...Just looks very thin and is so explosive on offense.

If Likens or Lashlee like this kid on O, why wouldn't they get to make the call? They are honestly the only 2 coaches on staff with proven results. I'd hope that his tape was run by those guys first before they all agreed CB is the move going forward.
