Makes no sense to keep crying about the staff

People, this is the Internet. It doesn't have to make sense.

B/C if you give coaches two free years, it usually turns into 4 or 5. Fans have a right to complain if they feel the staff is not up to our standard.

Or should we praise people that we think suck? Perhaps we should nickname Richt, "the Don".....until of course you decide that he's no longer good and then we can continue bashing?

But until they actully do something (recruit or play in a game)
You don't know if they are up to our standard. It's perfectly fair to raise concerns as you see them.
But we don't have anything to judged them on as a staff. Not until we see the product.

I don't see the problem with discussing the hires. I appreciate all informed opinions. Doesn't this board exist to discuss Miami football?

Because it's not discussion. It's complain about every single thing Richt does. I'm all for a debate about this or that coach or unit, but it's far from enjoyable to listen to people blame everything that happens or doesn't happen or might happen on the same guy. I'm still trying to get over everything being als fault, now, before having a chance to coach a game, everything is Richt's fault.

Is there another HC who hired 5 complete amateurs to his staff, plus the D'Onofrio of the West?
yea butch Davis in 2000

exactly. and for those that haven't seen it, here's chise's rundown of those coaches in the other thread.

Larry Coker--Not an elite hire. Here's where Coker was when Davis hired him as OC: 1993–1994 Ohio St. DEFENSIVE BACKS Coach;
1995 Ohio St. QB Coach.

Greg Schiano--Not an elite hire. Here's Schiano's immediate history prior to being hired: 1991–1995 Penn State DB Coach; 1996–1997 Chicago Bears Defensive Assistant; 1998 Chicago Bears DB Coach.

Dudzinski--Not an elite hire. Chud's background: 1994–1995 University of Miami (Graduate assistant).

Vernon Hargreaves--Not an elite hire. Hargreaves came to Miami after 13 seasons on the staff at the University of Connecticut, where he was outside linebackers coach from 1985-89 and inside linebackers coach from 1989-97.

Curtis Johnson--Not an elite hire. 1994 SMU (WR); 1995 Cal (WR). He had a good background but nothing earth shattering.

Kehoe--Not an elite hire. Kehoe was the TE Coach and an Offensive Line Assistant when Davis hired him.

Greg Mark--Not an elite hire. Mark was a GA at UM until 1994. He spent one year as Utah State's DL Coach and then Davis hired him.

Pagano--Not an elite hire. 1992–1994 East Carolina coached defensive backs and linebackers.

Soldinger--Not an elite hire. Was a HS Coach.

So there you have it. Our last great staff, which produced multiple HCs and coordinators, had ZERO elite hires when the hires were made. None of those guys were guys that anyone on here would have been jumping up and down about at the time they were hired. With the benefit of time and seeing their careers develop, we can see that several of them turned into great football coaches.

Hopefully, we'll see the same thing with some of Richt's "questionable" hires. You never know if Banda or Rumph might develop into the next Pagano for example. We had no idea Pagano was going to be the HC of the Colts when we hired him from East Carolina.

So what say you FullERicht about Butch's staff and their pedigree?

I always love how these statements take in no way consideration of talent.

If you don't understand the impacts of teams full of talent you don't understand the college game. There is no draft and there is no parity.

Myers took over with a monster of a #2 class already on his roster. With that he went 9-3. We are no where near that.

None of those guys won without top 4 classes on their roster.

In 2017 we have a shot. If its a top 4 class we have no excuses. This years class isnt going to be top 10 which is already starting being the 8 ball.

Flashback!

This sounds almost . . . no . . exactly like what you said about Golden!

Did you just copy and paste?

What good does it do to cry about it incessantly? It's over now. I can see debating it and hoping for certain guys to be hired and discussing the guys we hoped for BEFORE the actual hire is made.

But once those guys aren't hired, and Richt hires guys you don't like, why keep beating the dead horse? It's over now. The whining won't change anything. You've made your point, and you're going to look like the genius and the first to call it if everything goes to ****.

Richt Jr. is a coach on the staff. So are a few other green coaches. Does that mean they're going to suck or that we're going to suck? They might. We might. But what does incessantly whining about it now do other than make you annoy the fck out of most of these guys?

Richt knows what he wants. At his firing press conference, he openly regretted delegating too much of the actual offensive coaching to underlings. With this young and hopefully eager staff, he can be the big boss and clear leader with everyone pulling in the same direction. And they can be the energetic recruiters every great team needs to beat the bushes and be tireless and relate to young people.

He knows why he got fired too. This is the staff he put together in response to getting fired from a job he loved. He didn't hire these guys on a whim. He hired them for a specific reason. Will it work? We shall see. But it's over.

Wow.

That's all I got.

UM

Here's the bottom-line:

The Canes haven't even taken a single **** snap under Richt's tenure yet. He picked his staff - and absolutely nothing we say or do will have any effect on it.

So what's the point of the incessant bit*hing and moaning? What, exactly, is the end-goal?

To get the ball rolling more quickly this time so we don't have to waste 5 good years on more disappointng Canes football. This staff, with this HC, will not get us where we want. I want to move on quickly this time.

Gave the dude a chance. Didn't like the hire all that much. But gave him a chance to build a "monster staff". Instead he gave us Coach Kool, a few jags, and a bunch of grad assistants---and a disastrous DC who is the D'Onofrio of the long star state.
An insufferable pos Enough already.

Good message, Franchise. Like I said in another thread... Can't we agree to at least give Richt and staff 4 games and then we can start fighting all over???

I don't care if you give him 4 games or 4 minutes. But incessantly crying about hires he already made adds nothing. Make some new points if you have them.

Agreed. It's done already so we need to hope for the best. Otherwise it's like telling someone whose life sucks or is going through a rough personal time that their life sucks... over and over and over, as opposed to trying to encourage them to move forward positively. It's enough already.

Lol man. Richt has never went after the "big" name coach. He has always got younger guys with a few experinced guys mixed in. Go find when he had a "monster staff" at uga. He never had one and still won 145 games.

Why get all rustled now? Wait until signing day, or better yet on field production. I would rather see Richt hire his guys vs an admin wasting big bucks on a Kevin Steele type.

Staff management is as important as the initial hires. If a corch under performs he has got to go. No more of this buddy system into perpetuity no matter what bull****.

I really can't believe people are upset about Jon Richt being a coach on the staff, lmao.

As Tony Phillips once said, "Wins and mother&*&ing losses. Wins and mother&*$%ing losses."

That's what it comes down to now. The staff is the staff. I agree with 'chise, just *****ing and moaning about it all the time is now just mental *********ion and a waste of time.

The kid's helping coach the position his dad already told the world that he was going to coach at his next job on the day UGA fired him. How the fck much damage can he do, and how many giant names were going to come here to hold Richt's bible and watch him coach the QBs?

All I can tell you, sir, is that if Mark Richt doesn't succeed here, it'll be because he hired his son to be assistant QB coach.

He should have hired a veteran coach to follow him around.
