Make Barkate compete for a stating job

A dedicated QB coach works entirely with his unit all throughout the week. Yes obviously we have a staff that works with QBs as well. But no one who has a proven track record with developing QBs. Besides that we've had plenty of games we could've put in back ups. Just a fact. We don't devote attention to the room as a whole the way we should and it's why we have to keep going to the portal instead of playing our own.

@Brooklyndee I’ve thought about the exact same thing… do you think what’s holding us up from getting someone with a proven track record is that most QB coaches, at least the good ones want to call plays and that won’t happen here so they won’t come… or Dawson doesn’t want anyone else having influence over his room? As alluded to in your other post, I remember Frank Ponce being here as the QB coach but not calling plays and that didn’t work out well so he bounced.

There’s a serious gap in development happening there and it doesn’t appear there’s a fix to address it currently.

I'm one of the long-time members on here who appreciates what you bring, while also paying attention to your subtle clues.

I also generally agree with your takes, although I think you're a little hard on the staff on a few smaller things.

My issue is I have COMPLETE trust that Mario is the man for this job. Zero question in that. Knowing that means I also hold him to a standard (while most people on here think I defend him and give him a pass over everything cause of how long I've known him). If you've been paying attention to the things I've been critical about over the years, look how often he eventually addresses it. I see how close we are to being a factory again. I just don't want stupidity to be something another staff can pick at us with. If the standard is excellence than we should be pushing for it ourselves.

lol the backup QB’s haven’t developed because the room was *** for the last couple years if we being honest. Emory looked like a G5 from the day he got on campus, Judd isn’t good. The room will look a lot better “ developed” with Nickel and Coleman because they have actual talent

Mario had a QB coach his first or 2nd season. Richt had a QB coach.

We saw how great the quarterback play was in 2022, 2017 and 2018.

I dont care that Barkate went for over 1k at Duke last year. I worry that he will be the security blanket for Mensah. I think Vaughn, Moore and Jacobs are all better and more dynamic. Ideally, my WR starters are Mali, Vaughn, Moore as starters and Jacobs in 4 wide sets. I will never hope for an injury to any player, especially a Cane, but I think it would be better for the team if Barkate gets real comfy on the bench.
