I, for the life of me, can not understand why he hired "No-D". To me, that screams lazy hire (see above).

As has been mentioned ad nauseum in this thread already, Applewhite hired D'Onofrio immediately after his historically atrocious five-year stint at Miami. That type of indefensible, monumentally stupid decision making is a dealbreaker.

Applewhite was also loathed by Texas fans for the s***** job he did there as OC. Let's stop hiring failures fresh off getting fired and start identifying coaches on an actual upward trajectory in their career.

UH has a huuuuuuuuge booster that DH is close with, he also still as his home in Houston I read somewhere. Things are stale in Morgantown, had a good opportunity this year with one of his best teams and couldn’t get it done. Could be ready to move on? UH can pay him well, less expectations, etc. I agree it’s unlikely but crazier things have happened.
