Main Concern

My worries:

One, everyone thinks this is a BAD Florida team based on its schedule vs the talent they bring to the table. You can argue any team ranked 15th to 25th at the start of the season would finish a .500 team with this schedule. This is still an SEC team.

Two, Napier is coaching for his life AND has had all off season to come up with very new schemes that will be focused on our DBs

Three, the last decade +

With that said - Lets Go Canes !!!!!!!
I don't necessarily think its a bad team but they weren't good in several areas that should present good matchups for us. Their defense got ate up by good OL's last year and gave up 31 sacks with a short passing game. I think the trenches, running game, and QB play lean towards us heavily.

Is there a rule against using signs? I would imagine they have the ability to fall back to using signs of the helmet comms thing isn't going well.
No...during the Montana St and New Mexico game they mentioned Montana not using ear pieces because it wasn't approved at their level

There is no reason to underestimate UF.

What has plagued Miami for decades? Being into its own hype. Getting ahead of itself. The players need to focus on beating the man in front of him. One play at a time.

Miami loves to buy into the hype. That’s why the off season kills us and BYE weeks are terrible. Too much time believing in winning without actually being challenged.

Miami needs to focus on one play at a time. Forget the score. Forget the noise. Forget the field conditions.

If the team is focused, we win, but if it starts letting things like turnovers and incomplete plays haunt them, they lose.

Ignore the Cam Ward hype.

Thought I heard mention they didn't use it since it wasn't approved for use during the playoffs so why bother using it now. I could be wrong tho. Can't imagine they think they'd have a chance at the playoffs either lol

100% correct but later followed with wouldn't be using in regular season either for the exact same reason

True, but we should still win. Lose and it might get ugly on here.

all the national beat writers are correct in the sense that the winner of this game can quiet the doubters and pick up a marquee victory on their résumé, but the loser is absolutely in trouble (even if it means more heat in the short-term for a Billy loss than a Mario loss).
Oh yea i think we are the better team for sure, and by the end of the year or mid season we will be considered a way better team but i think this game will be close.. It just what it is, rivalry game in the very first week on the road? Its probably the toughest situation we will play in all year

And to me an extra point on why i really want this win is this will be Mario’s first big rivalry win here..We have lost to fsu twice, unc twice..Unless we still consider vtech a big rivalry we have no wins in these games if im not mistaken so winning this one will be big

Optically, this would be a bad loss even if it’s a close spread in Vegas. And it’s a close spread for the reasons you just listed. I work in that area, I’m totally in line with your rationale here.

Forget flipping any UF recruits if you lose this game. Hanks, Brown…nope. This one means a ton in that regard. That and I don’t want Lagway in blue and orange, ultimately believe Billy is fired after going 5-7 and Lagway transfers to A&M after they drop a bag. Them winning this game buys Billy a much longer leash.

We’ve spent all offseason crapping on UF and laughing at their takes…not about to play the reversal now. It’s win, or embarrassment and another offseason of fools gold. We just laughed at FSU losing week 0 to a mediocre GT team, same will apply to us if we lose this one. Not that we can’t improve as a team throughout the season and still win the ACC + make the CFP, but Mario needs quality wins on his résumé. You lose this one and fall to 0-3 against in-state P4 rivals, combined with 0-2 against UNC, a loss to Midd Tenn, the GT debacle…I mean where does it end? At what point would excuses run out for the lack of success on the field?

I’ll be there, I’m confident that despite a potential tight one in a hostile environment…we’ll find a way to pull this out.

Don’t care by how much (although I can absolutely see them quitting if we punch them in the mouth early and keep our foot on the gas). Just win.

I hear u man but alot of this is opposite of how i think lol..I want us to win this win game like a mf but its a 12 game season i wont be too high or too low regardless of the outcome.

I haven’t been laughing at uf i honestly think this will be one of if not the toughest games all year for us, it will be a big disappointment to lose for sure but not an embarrassment to me unless we just underwhelm the entire year.

But i do agree with you mario needs this win in a big rivalry game and optically its literally the perfect time to put our foot down in the state, beat florida after fsu loss and then have a great year that creates tons of momentum and finally puts real **** behind the dreams we been selling.

That's mine as well. My other concern is our tackling in space. It's something we've struggled with for a while now and hopefully it has improved especially against Tre Wilson.

Their record in home openers is a bit troubling too, until you realize they didn't really play anyone besides Utah in recent years.

My main concern for this week isn't matchup related. We could kill these boys on any neutral field. The main concern I have right now is this will be the first time Cam Ward has ever had the OC communicating directly into his ear instead of using signs. So for the first time he has to listen and communicate at the same time in the Swamp. GT's QB was having trouble at a neutral field in Ireland. The Swamp will be a whole different beast and I hope our coaching staff has backup plans with signals to keep things moving if he can't hear.

STILL NOT ENOUGH FOR ME TO DOUBT THE OUTCOME. Canes roll
I could see Ward being smart enough to call his own play if communications went out. The coaches have already said they have backup plans, after speaking with coaches in the NFL, and hearing that they can lose the connection. It will also be hard for Ward to hear, even if the communications are working.

I keep telling myself Canes 60-something, UF single digits because truth be told, I'm fugkcin terrified of a loss. A loss would mean that essentially all my football hopes and dreams for this year are shattered before October ends AGAIN. I don't want that. I've spent enough time and sad energy looking for things to do on Saturdays past in October and November because the Canes have been eliminated from anything significant in the postseason by that point.

Yeah I get it's only one game. It's not the end of the world, etc, etc. However if we lose to those sister-bangin, mommy tongue-kissers, it will kill any confidence I've grown as Hurricane PTSD will set in and the impending doom of future defeats will become palpable.

Ward will be fine.

I am hoping by the 2nd qtr to have the crowd noise taken down a notch. The communication actually gives the coordinators a few seconds to point some things out to Cam and Kiko before the snap. I wish Dawson was in the booth, but he should have new eyes helping with that. I hate inside zone runs with a passion. I want to see some pin and pull so bad, but that is not in Carpenter's best interest. After UF's terrible finish last season, I expect some changes, Dan Enos. I really like Guidry and expect progress with a full set of tools this season. He just got outcoached at UL(that game is circled) and at UNC. That can't happen again. Hope the rain holds out. This team is focused. Go Canes!
