Mahoney leaves program, team releases statement

This speaks volumes to me.

You know Richt would've plugged Mahoney in as a starter again in 2019. The fact that he is leaving the program tells me two things -

1. Manny doesn't **** around

2. Talent will play over tenure

This is big time to me, cause we see all the big time schools do it.

Agreed that it was a smart move on OUR part to free up a scholly, but HE put himself in the portal, right?
Just wondering what he'd do under quality coaching, but at this point it's best to just wish him well and see what recruiting season offers.
Doesn't matter at this point. There are younger more talented players. Guys that didn't even play last year would have passed him based on their natural progression (Gaynor, Reed, Campbell, etc).

More talented players are taking his job. Richt/Searles weren't savage enough.

Does this mean all Golden players are finally purged from the rooster? This could be the first year if thats the case.
Knowles, Patchan are the only ones I could think of. Anyone who is a redshirt senior.

Nice kid, but a very average talent. Canes have a number of 4* linemen who have not been developed. (Donaldson, Herbert, Scaife, Milo, Reed). New OL coach with NFL exp. should get the most our of these guys.

True, Manny ain't with that soft ****, but I'm wondering if this was a mistake on Mahoney's part.
Is it truly a lack of talent, or was it a lack of development that facilitated what we saw on the field?
What if he gave it another year under quality coaching to see?

Either way, wish him the best. Wasn't impressed at all with his performance, and I can only hope he realizes his potential -- whatever potential that may or may not be, somewhere else.
My 1/2 cent worth. His technique was not God awful, but no matter how "correctly" he played, he'd end up pushed into our backfield waaaay too often. He's the kid that "graded out" well, but it's a moot point when you cannot do your job and get knocked backwards or on ***.

Fair enough. I accept that. (in my Sons of Anarchy Chucky voice)

I still dont believe coaching was ALL the problem.

Just dont think the OL athletes arenon the roster.

Mahoney was touted as a big bull dozer bully type right?

If he believed in himself, why leave with better coaching now on board?

Tru cane, isn't this the kid that flew another team out from cali to experience a weekend? Not his fault he got so much burn when he shouldn't have. There are great canes that never played much, he could have been one!
I think Bar Milo's parents flew Mahoney's family to UM but I could be wrong.

I think he got a fair assessment from Manny of his future at the U.

If he wants to go into the "league"--the Canadian Football League, that is....he needs to transfer where he'll get playing time. Like Mankato State, or South Dakota State, or Mayo Clinic Club Football, or something like that. Since he's from Pennsylvania, maybe Shippensburg State, or Slippery Rock, or something like that.

Sorry I'm so mean...but at least I feel bad, unlike the vicious posters who hate Canes who just don't quite mean their lofty standards.
