I tuned in for a bit and he looked checked out on the sideline. I don’t understand why he’s still there, especially if he expressed any sign of hanging it up. At least let an interim coach come in and give the kids some motivation.

It also sounded like he gave some bull**** passive aggressive speech to his players too, like some weird **** to try to make them feel guilty or something and make them take the blame. He’s such an ***. I’ve always thought he was a sanctimonious prick. I’m sure he’s the kind of coach players hate to play for.

Manny didn't do anything to us that responsible adults couldn't have forseen and prevented. Manny tried his hardest, but he was a bad hire because he had no experience or pedigree and anyone who thought otherwise was a fool. I hate the clowns that hired him because they don't know football. My jaw fell straight to the floor when they hired him.

Interesting stat I heard, UNC had given up 53 points by halftime to JMU. 53 points was also the highest amount in a half given up by the UNC basketball team last year.

Manny Diaz was practically a tragic Greek figure with a sealed fate. With no real football pedigree and his dad being a mayor, it was a combo of silk pajamas and imposter syndrome. He did try, but it takes a larger-than-life persona and personal gravitas to succeed as a HC here, and he was never that. That's why I harbor no ill-will against the guy.
On topic, UNC should've been grooming or looking for an HC in waiting since the Brown hire if the AD was serious about football. How many years did they think they would get out of a **** fossil?

Nailed it. It was an awful hire, but as I said at the time, if that was going to be the decision, then everyone better prepare themselves for a steep learning curve. He didnt do a lot of things well, but not many coaches go right into their first coaching gig and nail it. Cristobal’s first tenure didn’t end so well either.
Diaz looked like he was slowly learning from mistakes . First season he went pro style, then next season he was the first UM coach to move UM from "pro-style” to a spread offense. It was a massive improvement. But he would not have time to learn everything he needed to know at UM. Expectations were unrealistic given his lack of experience, but it’s UM and thats how it goes.
Smart move would have been to decline the UM HC offer and stay at Temple to learn where it’s not a pressure cooker, and then if he was successful there then maybe one day he’d have a shot to be an experienced, successful coach at UM. But I can’t blame the guy- if UM offers then you take the job, even if you don’t have the qualifications yet.
Seems to have worked pretty well for everyone though. Diaz only spent a couple years as a DC before getting the Duke job. He could be the HC at Duke forever. They will be ecstatic and crown him if he manages to win 8-9 games a season. We got Cristobal, who went to Saban coaching rehab and then showed what he learned at Oregon, and he’s turned UM into one of the best teams in the country.
Ultimately though, I don’t get the hate for the dude. He wasn’t qualified for the UM job but he got offered the job anyways , he did the best he could do but it wasn’t nearly good enough. He was a big part of the 2017 season that was the lone bright spot for UM in years (the defense carried that team). He has my appreciation for that.
