I can't lie, I didn't like him because he coached at a program that I despise and, also, I think he never
missed an opportunity to give UM a cheap shot.
However, he was one heck of a coach and as a person he was a standup guy.
I remember on the eve of an Orange Bowl game against a very talented Oklahoma, he suspended three of his stars, yet he somehow whipped the Sooners.
He was a master motivator.
I also remember his stint at UofMinnesota when his QB from South Carolina learned of his Mom's passing. He paid for the kid's flight home to be with his family, which got him in trouble with the NCAA.
He didn't care as he was looking out for his player.
So, yeah, much respect for him.
