Looks like Blake James spoke with a few press members today

James should be fired for utter incompetence and fiscal negligence. He obviously wasn't prepared when Richt stepped down, panicked and threw money at Temple - yes, Temple, the same institution that gave us Al Golden and his chubby buddy, and without even a minimal search rushed to hire the departed defensive coordinator who had never run a program. The analytics guy who got his start as an ESPN intern. The same guy who had to resurrect his coaching career after getting blown out at Texas.
This is just recent football stuff. We won't get into the AD who has overseen a basketball program now deep in the ******* - in large part because he's let the basketball coach do as he pleases and stay as long as he wants. The same basketball coach who was very fortunate to have his hands only slightly burned in the shoe business scandal.

“Manny is our head coach. Obviously this has been a disappointing season. Manny would acknowledge that. Our guys would acknowledge that. And I understand that the fans acknowledge that. “The last two losses have been very tough. The team has fought to the very end. And while those games could have easily gone our way and we’d be sitting here at 4-2 and 2-0 [in the Atlantic Coast Conference], they didn’t go our way.

“We need to win games. Manny knows we need to win games. And he and his coaching staff are doing everything they can to put our guys in position to win games.’’ The Hurricanes (2-4, 0-2 ACC), off to their worst start since 1997, meet No. 18 NC State at 7:30 p.m. Saturday (ESPN2) at Hard Rock Stadium. Going into the NC State game, Diaz, 47, is 16-14 since he became the head coach at Miami before the 2019 season. The Herald asked Diaz if the NC State game could affect Diaz’s job status. “Every game affects the evaluation of a job,’’ James said. “Again, dating back to his time over the years, every game you play affects your status. It strengthens it in certain games and obviously challenges it in others. Every game is part of the evaluation of someone’s job status.’’

James was then asked why he has decided not to replace Diaz at this time, considering the reality of where UM is as a football program. “Because I don’t think that’s the best decision for the University of Miami football program,’’ James said. Why not? James: “When you look at Year One obviously there were some real challenges in Manny’s head coaching. He would acknowledge that. It was a tough finish for us with the three losses to end the season. “Year two the team significantly improved (3:58) and had a great year overall. Obviously a very disappointing and frustrating loss to North Carolina and a battle with Oklahoma State that didn’t go our way. But calling it for what it is, an 8-2 regular- season record and loss in the bowl game.

“And this year has been disappointing on all accounts. “We need to win more and Manny knows we need to win more and that’s what he’s focused on. But my job is to support him in doing that and part of that is getting ready to play North Carolina state tomorrow.”
I love how he considers every loss to be a win, or blames it on the football gods saying it just didn’t go our way. Maybe, just maybe the HC can’t win close football games??

This guy has no standards or competitive spirit- as the DIRECTOR of the ATHLETIC department.

Idk who’s further from being qualified for the job he holds, Manny or Blake.

It’s just going to have to get full toxic before he even acknowledges the failures he has helped produce and is. I’m talking pizzas, calling him out in person and emailing repulsively BOT members, banners, real estate reps… I mean full blown “I need to GTFOH “type toxic. It will, or they will accept that we have accepted bottom of the barrel sports teams while they collect ACC checks.

Yup exactly. He's going to fire Manny to try to save his own ***

I think he had the assurance of certain BOT members that he would not be the fall guy when he hired Diaz without any other interviews. This BOT clique wanted their guy (the former mayor's son), just like they wanted a prominent BOT members kid for head baseball coach. If I were a betting man, I would wager a small amount that he remains the AD of everything but football. The new Chief of Football Ops will be required to "consult" with James on decisions, but will not formally answer to James.

If they do go that route, they should just hire a new AD for revenue sports and James can be the AD for non-revenue sports. I would actually find that to be a kind of poetic justice. It would make clear to James that he is so poorly regarded that he isn't allowed near any program that generates money since he has made it obvious that he is utterly incompetent.

This has probably been answered before but who is Fake Blames boss? Strawley, flammin’ frenk? I just want to know who I’m laughing at their incompetence

“We need to win games. Manny knows we need to win games. And he and his coaching staff are doing everything they can to put our guys in position to win games.’’
Does he realize he just said they are not good enough? If they are doing everything they can to win and we still lose, then.....

Coaching evaluations should never be based solely on the record. This is why current and prior coaches have stuck around too long. If you know how to evaluate a coach and understand the difference between poorly coach and well coached team you don’t need the W/L record.

If you don’t think the team is well coached and the coach is not the future, then move to replace him as soon as possible.
