"Look Under the Hood"

IMO, selfishness is the key. If you have players that will do the dirty work - like blocking, running quality routes, the little things that contribute to winning close games, you will be successful. However, if you have too high a percentage of guys who are looking to pad a NFL resume for a big $$$ day, your team will pay the price for it.

Unfortunately, Miami has had too many guys focused on getting that NFL payday instead of focusing on team goals each year. This explains the large number of early entries to the NFL draft - even though they are day 2 or 3 draft picks, some not drafted at all. Everyone wants to play as early as possible, but the key is finding guys who are willing to put in the work as underclassmen - play special teams, get some game experience during the year - so they will be ready to be called upon as starters in their junior and senior years.

Urban is a bit full of it though when it comes to players. Yes, you need to have players to be elite. You can't have the 75th rated recruiting class each season and expect to consistently be a top 10 team.
We built our brand on NFLU, thats the result you get..

Mark Donofrio, Mark Richt, and Manny Diaz dont coach their units the right way.

What unit is Manny Diaz coaching? Has he secretly been coaching LBs instead of Patke for the last 2 years?

When Miami had Shaq and Pinkney, Diaz's LB unit was one of the better ones in the ACC and it was a night and day change from D’Nofrio with the exact same players. What a bizarre, foolish comment.

He's an accomplished coach..no doubt...look at his resume.

But he is also guilty of fostering some pretty bad environments. He's not fooling anybody.

How you think he knows about trust issues??

Urban Liar has a lot of “credibility” because he’s won a lot of games. That being said, he also has a few stains on his resume. What works for one coach doesn’t necessarily work for another.

I would add character and accountability to his list. Also, many kids are focused on the future and not the present.

Urban is one of the best to do it so I dont want to just say that hes wrong, but hes saying this assuming that the coaches are sane. Mark Donofrio, Mark Richt, and Manny Diaz dont coach their units the right way. At all. Manny plays upperclassmen over underclassmen. Seniority or talent. Urban and the greats dont do that, and the great coaches struggle to realize the reality of bad coaches.

He also wont acknowledge the parity in talent at the college level. Hes a great coach, but his success was 100% dependent on getting the best players money could buy.

He had success at Bowling Green and even more at Utah. I’m pretty sure he didn’t buy players at those two stops.

Lift Meyer’s hood and you’d probably find cocaine and hookers

Yeah the dude is just a winner. He’s a winner at all costs though. He definitely exploited the recruiting trix in the Sec and at OSU but make no mistake he’s a great head coach and Xs and Os man

The fact that we are closing games now dominating 4th quarters is proof that we have a talented and capable roster of players. The challenge now is to get everyone unit to perform the way they do in the 4th quarter, for the other 3 quarters as well.

Our team has been going thru the motions for 3 quarters for 15 years now mentally but the difference is now we have enough talent and leaders to get away with this unfocused culture. Our worse units LBs, CBs, and OL even perform well to close and when our backs are to the wall.

We have about 10 players who play all 4 quarters with passion, focus, and URGENCY.

They are the players that fuel the improved play and efforts during the 4th. Our coaches must bring this out of the other players on our roster.

No way I’m ridding this dudes nuts.
He’s a smart dude that says all the right things. If ESPN wasn’t in bed with the sec they would like f tore into the sht that went on when he was in hog town.
go check under that hood.

We have a real qb. He’ll be gone shortly.

Fixing 20 years of mess takes more than a transfer or three.

Baker coaches the LBs.

How difficult is this for people to understand?

Patke is listed as OLB coach
Baker as ILB coach

Which ever of the two is the lead dog for LBs is beside the point. The poster said Diaz had failed as a position coach. He hasn't coached LBs since 2018. And when he did coach LBs, they were played quite well.

Anybody besides me ever have a coach that was a prick and had zero respect for his players except the guy who was blowing smoke up his ***? Players can't check under the hood.

I did not say that. I said Diaz does not coach his unit well. Diaz is the head coach and was the defensive coordinator and is the defacto defensive coordinator.

He can only talk about coaches that HE HIMSELF hired as a 3 time national champion head coach.

He isn’t the type of guy to put up with a bum *** coordinator sand bagging his team. So the assumption is that the coach is competent, otherwise he wouldn’t work for Urban Meyer.

Bum coaches can ride talent to sneak a national title, but not three. Lots of guys with top 5 talent couldn’t finish the job. You are really underestimating how much his leadership has mattered.
