Are you more shocked Mario made that list at all or that Kirby not so smart and dabo are in top 3? That list is a joke. I definitely don't think Mario should be top 10. 15 is probably earliest I'd consider him. But the coaches they have in it are a joke.
Lost me there. I hate Kirby and Dabo but both have 2 national titles and drastically superior winning %'s to the rest of the field... but I agree on Mario - top 15-20ish. Not saying he shouldn't be on there. Just surprised he was included. You and I and everyone else knows the national perspective on him being an awful gameday coach.

But that's a significant part of the problem is exactly what you just said though. People not being able to distinguish a head coach is far more than his results. Especially if you're a coach that errs on the side of management and not play calling. Results are great but we both know it's the coordinators that are truly responsible for the results. If that wasn't the case then how would you explain saban & Kirby not so smart etc when they're not getting the type of play calling that they need. Georgia under Mike Bobo is very different than Georgia any other time. Sabin under whoever the **** that was in the early days at bama opposed to Sabin under innovative offensive minds all very different. Everybody wants to put everything on a head coach but reality is it's not. It's the coordinators that the head coach hires is the most important factor in the head coach's success. For me all of those dudes are perfect examples of basic head coaches that have shines with the right coordinators & have struggled heavily when they experience turnover. I'm not trying to take away who they are when it relates to what they physically coach. You can't take away Mario's results when it relates to offensive lineman You can't take away Sabin or Kirby's results when it relates to DB's but there's certain coaches like deboer like cignetti like BYU's coach that are just flat out monsters those dudes should be far higher up than Kirby not so smart and dabo who's reliant on nothing but coordinators every other time they talk about firing him same with Ryan Day. So my issue with that list I already told you and we both agree Mario should be 15 to 20 range somewhere around there but the rest of them the rankings are so screwed it's pathetic

Like if we're looking at that as simply nothing but hurricanes are we thinking to ourselves Larry Coker was ever some sort of amazing head coach, until he just wasn't? They're always the same people. It's just the staff around them that makes them shine.

To your point Ryan day was on the chopping block right before the playoffs starting now all of a sudden people think he’s Nick Saban

If you have the time, who are your top 5 or 10?
Deboer,Cignetti,Mendenhall,Whittingham,Freeman,Klieman,Sataki,Brohm,Ferentz, Beilima
Put em in just about any order you want. But it's not even close for me outside of that 10. If I really had to I'd probably put Deboer(who may not be able to even coach his contract out at bama before they get rid of him)Cignetti, Sataki, Klieman & Brohm top 5.

recruiting matters too. Dabo, Saban, Kirby all land the top players too.

My primary critique of Mario is coaching staffs. Third DC in four seasons and replaced staff again, except JT. But he recognized the mistakes and moved on.

I hope DC Hetherman, Etheridge, Harris, and Damione Lewis are a step in the right direction.

Of course recruiting matters. But if recruiting is gonna be so relevant than they also can't justify keeping Mario so low. Because he's a far better recruiter than all of them.
The Dirkiwitz write-up is mutually exclusive to Mario's.

Makes no sense other than, "let's throw some **** on the wall"

Lanning transformed Oregon? They won 2 pac 10 titles and a rose bowl right before he took over a 10 win team lol
Lincoln Riley is about to get fired.
Lane is overrated too.

You don’t have to like Kirby but he room uga to next level and has put a lot of players in nfl who are doing great. Everyone acts like recruiting doesn’t matter. All those great coaching minds still don’t have Kirby’s trophy case.

Pat Fitzgerald is easily top 5 on that list if not run out at Northwestern.

Northwestern University and their entire alumni base should be beyond embarrassed on that one.

Last I heard he was coaching HS football at Loyola in the suburbs of Chicago and killing it.

The primary function of a HC these days is talent acquisition.

There is not a coach on that list that has done a better job at talent acquisition than Cristobal.

We expect more from him but he belongs higher up on that list.
