All of us are aware of the depth concerns. As far as I know the fixes are limited. I read on the board this weekend all about why some players were still on the field. I decided to take a look at the roster again. Football - Roster - University of Miami Hurricanes Official Athletic Site
If my eyes served me well, I saw about 6 walk on linebackers. It got me to thinking. Could any of them contribute on special teams to limit the exposure of our other linebackers? Can any of them contribute at linebacker? And what kind of drop off are we talking about going from a Gordinier to one of the walk ons? I suspect there is a big drop-off. We should be fairly certain that the ship backers are bigger, faster, and stronger.

Young and Grace are gone. Gordinier is done for the year. So we have Shaq at MLB.
Owens is hurt. McCray, Smith, Perry all 2-3 year kids have been passed by McCloud and Pinckney.

Look next man up at this time looks like a walk on or a position change. So we have 3 true frosh LBs. 1 true sophomore. 2 Redshirt sophomores. Is Owens a true junior or did he get a shirt?

We actually have 75 ship players now. Young is still listed, but we know he is gone. https://www.canesinsight.com/player/eligibilitychart.php?team=5

I guess we are going to see one of the safeties move down. It isn't ideal that is for sure, but I don't see how we get by otherwise. I mean we can hope in one hand and **** in the other all we want . . .

Special teams is a 3rd of the game. You need some of your best athletes out there period or you will have a situation with earl Moore hunter knight on and guys like that chasing down punt returners

We are not going to see Carter moved down to LB in the middle of the season. It's a popular sentiment on here for some reason and it's just ridiculous.

It's not worth discussing. It isn't going to happen.

Management may need to consider a read only functionality for some posters.

3 true frosh
2 3rd yr sophomores
1 true sophomore
1 injured upper classmen
2 upper classmen dismissed

I don't think i want to see Carter move down either. So we either have no more injuries and the 6-7 we have are able to play the entire season or we play walk ons or we move players around. Certainly not the ideal place or spot to be in.

Owens coming back would be HUGE.

Gotta hope that rehab goes well.

It's super cool that we can just take some dude and change his position and he'll just perform. Glad there's no learning curve involved with taking a RB and making him a LB.

Moves to make if I was Richt:

Batten to LB
Jahair Jones to DT

re: Jamal Carter

Wouldn't be a bad decision. NFL teams are putting his style of play as a safety into a linebacker role pretty often now. As either an in-the-box safety or as a true linebacker. Not ideal, but there are worse moves to fill the void. It would just depend on how well he's able to acclimate himself to the spot.

Luckily JJ can play both safety spots at the same time, and as I might have mentioned, here's 0 learning curve, so let's do this!

not sure what part of "not ideal" you missed, but it was there.
