Linebacker/Defensive Depth

position changes arent coming. Richt isnt golden, he doesnt panic, he will figure this out with manny.

Owens looks timid on the knee. If the 3 fresh were soph's this would not be as scary.I like perry has being at least a serviceable back up. him and mike smith were all over the field the other night but its scary. im hoping our freshman dont hit a wall because of all the reps.

Owens being able to return is the key here. A second string of Owens, Smith and Perry is more than acceptable given the circumstances.

Owens is a very good player when healthy. Popa Shaq will tell you that. Dont know what in the world is taking him so long.

Imagine if the freshmen LB were not early enrollees. I see them as RS sophomores with half a year of college life.

He tore his knee up.

That's not something you just bounce right back from. Some players never fully recover.

Toolbox time!!!

Agreed, especially with Djax looking like the light came on.

Harris seems to be the guy we need to move.

Hard to tackle with only 1 hand. Since most teams we play operate out of the spread, I don't see this lack of depth as the sky falling. This just means we will be playing a lot more 4-2-5, which doesn't seem bad, since we need to get Jaquan Johnson on the field as often as possible.

Jamal Carter isn't ******* switching to LB. Stop being stupid. He's our starting Safety.

Well call me stupid. We need all hands on deck. A Fullback should be looked at, Carter should learn one of the spots. There will be more injuries and the athletes need to step up and fill roles when guys get hurt or tired. 11 more games. Nothing is out of the question except Kaaya will not be learning Middle Backer.

Our LB depth is non-existent.

We did bring in an LB from Ft. Lauderdale as a walk-on named Walker who has decent size. Don't know if he's playing LB or FB on the squad, but maybe he'll get a shot....

We're terribly thin - we're going to need to get a couple more bodies involved somehow....

All of us are aware of the depth concerns. As far as I know the fixes are limited. I read on the board this weekend all about why some players were still on the field. I decided to take a look at the roster again. Football - Roster - University of Miami Hurricanes Official Athletic Site
If my eyes served me well, I saw about 6 walk on linebackers. It got me to thinking. Could any of them contribute on special teams to limit the exposure of our other linebackers? Can any of them contribute at linebacker? And what kind of drop off are we talking about going from a Gordinier to one of the walk ons? I suspect there is a big drop-off. We should be fairly certain that the ship backers are bigger, faster, and stronger.

Young and Grace are gone. Gordinier is done for the year. So we have Shaq at MLB.
Owens is hurt. McCray, Smith, Perry all 2-3 year kids have been passed by McCloud and Pinckney.

Look next man up at this time looks like a walk on or a position change. So we have 3 true frosh LBs. 1 true sophomore. 2 Redshirt sophomores. Is Owens a true junior or did he get a shirt?

We actually have 75 ship players now. Young is still listed, but we know he is gone. https://www.canesinsight.com/player/eligibilitychart.php?team=5

I guess we are going to see one of the safeties move down. It isn't ideal that is for sure, but I don't see how we get by otherwise. I mean we can hope in one hand and **** in the other all we want . . .

We are not going to see Carter moved down to LB in the middle of the season. It's a popular sentiment on here for some reason and it's just ridiculous.

It's not worth discussing. It isn't going to happen.

Meanwhile....Jaquan Johnson just did a post game interview saying he is filling in for Jermaine Grace's role in the nickel formation. You're telling me JRock couldn't do that?

baffled by the reasoning on here sometimes. JJ and Trent are DL that are athletic enough to play weak side LB.

You are right. He would probably be one of the outside backers or a DE.Time to man up,all hands on deck.
