Get him standing up. This is college. Just use him in a way that accentuates the positives. He can fly. Get him in space to make a play.

He is so close i just want him to be a full time linemen and not have to be taken off the field. He could be another Jalen Phillips with his speed

That’s why I wouldn’t portal in a DE1 if Lowe is healthy. Lightfoot, Blount and Scroggins are already showing they can play at a playoff level. Add Lowe and we have our two deep with Bryant, Pickett and McConathy AND the incoming freshmen. Deep and incredibly talented.

Definitely needs to put on some weight he still looks really thin out there, especially when you compare him to the rest of our front seven. To play in this defense you need to be stout against the run as well. He’s still got time to develop so we’ll see.

If a Jaelen Phillips hits the portal, you can't pass that up. But he's the profile I'd be going for. No ceiling but potential bust who is much less expensive. I personally would target other positions of need with the bulk of our portal budget.

The effort that Lightfoot plays with cannot be taught. It’s otherworldly how hard he plays. Every game he makes a wow play. In the last game he reached out and grabbed the rbs ankle. Not a throw your arm out and hit the guys leg. He vice gripped the guys ankle making the tackle on a huge third down. If he doesn’t make that play it would’ve been an A&M explosive. Then in limited pass rushing reps his bend and speed were on full display. Lightfoot is a weapon that’s getting better and better.

I’m torn. Bain/Mesidor are elite at pass rushing and defending the run.
Lightfoot I think is that guy on pass rushing. But he probably needs another 20lbs to be a full time DE. His development might be the most importantl out of anyone this offseason…. Blount I didn’t get to see enough reps of him rushing on the edge this year cause Bain/Mesidor rarely rotated out. Also not 100% what position he plays next year according to some here.
So we got Lowe who we’ve heard great things about, but hasn’t really seen the field. I will say I do have some faith in JT and our staff in evaluating that position and its need this portal period

Lightfoot 100% needs to gain weight but he has shown more than adequate functional strength through out the year to be a full time DE. When you add his pass rush prowess, he is a player you can’t take off the field. It just happens that the two guys ahead of him are day 1 and 2 picks. I know we want a prototype there that is 6’5 260 but he is the type of player we have seen wreck game plans for teams like LSU for decades now.

Before the fall camp he said he was 227, said the staff wanted him to get to 230 and he was only able to get to 227.
Unless the rumors of Blount wanting to play DT next season are true..I predict that Taylor doesn’t go to the portal for a DE.

That’s 6 with the top 4 all either having great experience or great potential (Lowe). Why do we need to waste NIL on a DE? We have other pressing needs imo.
