I think the hire is pathetic and lazy. I wanted an established HC and an offensive guy.
However, Diaz has the personality of charisma of a great head coach.
And although I think his defense is overrated, it's good enough to compete for national championships if it's paired with a great offense.

Will he send the whole offensive staff packing, though?
Does he have the balls to essentially say "Hey I know we've been grinding/coaching together for the last 3 years but yall boys gotta go."
I don't know. I don't know what his relationship is like with those coaches on the other side of the ball. For all we know, he may like them and be apart of the excuse train. ("Kids aren't executing.")
Yall are ASSUMING that Manny disapproves of the offensive staff and is going to clean house. We don't know that. I sure as **** hope so, though. I'm sure he's not a fan of having his defense on the field all game.

With that said...
When coaches get their first HC gig they often call on guys from their tree to join them. Sometimes new HC's like familiarity.

Let's talk Manny's tree. Who has he coached with over the years that has been good on offense? I'm genuinely asking because I don't know, but I'm betting that those will be some of his first phone calls. It's not always sure-fire but this may give us a good idea at who he may be targeting.
Has he worked with anybody in the past worth considering?

A good offensive staff can make Diaz successful here IMO.

Manny knows at the end of the day its business not personal. He too has been on the other side of the chopping block. Jon Richt will need to learn this lesson. I wouldn't be surprised if Diaz busted a Kelly and let the entire or most of offensive staff go. The new OC will want his guys too to be fair. I think he keeps Jess Simpson. But it's a matter of whether Jess wants to work for Manny. I think he bolts. I think Searels is toast. I think Brown and Dugans are roast beef. Hartley is a Mork guy so I have a feeling he bolts by next year. Manny better be kung fu mastering all the signs right now if I were him. If he feels the vibe is negative from the offensive guys...he better 86 everyone and kill the plague before it spreads. If it were me, I'd fire everyone on both sides. Poach the best and brightest minds to use the gold mine that is South Fl.

They're gone. It (i.e., change) was already an ultimatum that led to him being hired.

The better question on offense is who would he keep?

People been saying something about a man named Ponce. We need a master of the air raid system please lord help us!

Apparently his tree has branches with the likes of Frankie ******* Ponce De Leon and James Coley.

I'm tempted to throw kerosene on that God **** tree and watch it burn.

If he does that to this fanbase, it'll be over before it even begins.

Go out, spend major money....and get a top notch experienced OC with an aggressive mentality.

This is a weird question because your tree, IMO, involves your contemporaries. But I see this as an easy answer. Keep Dugans and Hartley, if not for their coaching ability but for their recruiting ability. Hire a stud OC to also coach QB's, and get a new RB and OL coach. I'm betting Diaz lands Major Applewhite as OC. Regardless, once the OC is hired, you're then looking at the OC's coaching tree more than the HC's.

Umm your coaching tree is relative to coaches who coached under you. That's how it works.

Manny has no tree.

The only group of D1 coaches he coached with outside of UM are all coaching the Florida Gayturds currently.

He has absolutely ZERO coaching tree.

I agree with you. Wouldn’t mind Ponce as a QB coach though. However, what would upset me even more than either of those two is if we promote an OC from within. Brown is likely expecting to be named OC especially after he saw Banda/Patke get promoted to CO-DC. Don’t blame him for thinking that way but I do not want to see any of our current coaches running this O.

I will bet ANYONE on here $1000 that at least 75% of the staff is retained, if not more.

QB Coach? Fine...no problem.

But the main OC and play caller? I'd be done with this program for the near future if that's the formal announcement.

I don't know why some of yall are trippin' about Ponce. He's a really good offensive coach.
Name-wise he's not a splash hire but his offense is legit.

It wasn't just HIS offense and he didn't call plays. Plus...the expectation within the fanbase is that if you're going to go cheap and lazy with the HC hire....you better go bold, expensive, and proven on the OC hire.

There is no justification for that hire if it comes to pass.
