Let's talk about Jarren...

I am always a bit concerned about the eye test of onlookers and the reports that come from them when that QB can not beat out bums for playing time...even as a true freshman.

Jaren might turn out to be a great QB, but throwing a “pretty ball” in the warmup session the media watches is meaningless.

This happens annually. Its at every position, too. Some sort of report...whether its from a media member or one of the dudes from here (or sites of a similar ilk) say "so and so is looking gr8!" and throws some anecdotal note (throws THE PRETTIEST BALL or IS GETTING FIRST TEAM REPS) to help justify this hot take...and then the player barely plays or can't get reps from some legit JAG in front of them, but the narrative of this player being THE REAL DEAL continues throughout their entire career.

Very frustrating.

well reports were that richt didnt really give williams a shot early on. i wont hold last year against all three of the QBs. new staff, new maturity (hopefully).

Based on practice reports (even going as far back as last season), it seems that Jarren Williams is consistently regarded as having the best arm talent in the QB room. "Most accurate" and "throws the prettiest ball" are two observations that I've seen attributed to him repeatedly so far throughout Spring and now Fall...so what exactly is he missing? Is it decision-making, feel for the game, lack of pocket awareness? I would assume he has decent legs and can run if needed, but I also recognize that he is probably inferior to Tate in this regard. Where does Kosi outshine him though? Any insight here would be appreciated.

Jeff George had one of the highest regarding arms in NFL.

He was missing the "it" factor of a consistent winner. The "inch" speech from Any Given Sunday does a good job of summing up what he was perhaps missing.

Jamarcus Russell probably threw the prettiest ball..see where that got him..you have to have a feel for the game. That comes with Timing and understanding of the offense
WTF

It got him the Manning Award in college , 1st Team SEC and completed 68% of his passes his senior year throwing the ball down the field, and, was the #1 overall pick. I'd take that anyday of the week. We are a college team

Experience. The only way you start a kid with zero experience on national TV against your most hated rival in a season opener is because he's either miles better than your other options or you have no other choice.

He's not miles better (yet), and Enos has another choice (2, actually). It may be Jarren's time soon, but it's not yet.

And before everyone yells about Tate's experience, he has played in 6 college games, he has played in something other than total mop-up duty, and he's a year older aka more exposure to the college game. I'd certainly not call him "experienced", but he's got more than Jarren.

We won our first National Championship with a Redshirt Freshman.

Rosier had experience . . .

he also had issues off the field that def didnt help his demise in the pros.

Decision making. Not so much that he throws interceptions, but he just really seems to overthink things and settles for the easy throw.

He needs to let that bih rip and go for it.

Jeff George threw about the prettiest ball any QB could ever throw too.

The ability to think quickly and process information quickly are THE most important traits for a QB. It’s also the hardest to quantify. What a guy does in a live setting is usually the only indicator a coach can go by .

In practice? We've had a few ourselves. Kyle Wright was all world in HS, even started his career well here but ultimately didn't have it. Stephen Morris had a cannon and threw a beautiful deep ball but never put it all together. Jacory also threw some great passes here but wasn't consistent.

Nobody was more talented than Jamarcus. When J-Rock was skinnier he also moved really well.

Jamarcus and Jeff George absolutely style on Peyton Manning as athletes and talents

Valid points but don't forget Tate played a national schedule at Bishop Gorman with a lot of televised games and filmed a netflix special. Obviously CFB rivalry games are a huge step up but as far as experience vs Jarren it matters. Tate has been groomed for the spotlight and relishes it.
