Let's Break Down 2021 Defense

I swear to God this fanbase has an abusive relationship with players that suck balls.

"Ivey told me he wouldn't hurt me again. He promised he'll get better!"

Dude is awful. I really don't wanna bash players but three years in he has proven beyond any doubt that he is not a Miami caliber player.

Blades, Stevenson and Couch make for a very good and possibly excellent CB rotation. Let anyone else play over Ivey.

The only fear is if Manny continues to play upperclassmen who aren’t as talented. We took away meaningful snaps from the younger LB crew. Spring ball is going to be invaluable this year to see what we’ve got.

Nice list right up until the CB spot. As great as Trob is he can’t make chicken salad out of chicken****, just like he can’t make a Power five starting CB out of a guy who runs about a 4.8 forty and has hips as stiff as Iron rebar‘s. He’s not a magician man and you guys have to let Ivey go, he doesn’t have it and that’s that! He’s a group of five level player that was a terrible eval because he simply doesn’t have the spreed or hips to play the position. Maybe he could be a safety in the power five level but even that’s a maybe. Just let it go man, because if Ivey is starting it just shows that many more warts on Rumphs complete lack of recruting that were continuing to trot out a group of five guy out there to start in Ivey.
While I'm certainly not a huge fan of Ivey at CB, I wouldn't go so far as to relegate him to G5 status. I believe TRob can get better play out of Ivey. I also see TRob getting more out of every CB on the roster so an improved Ivey isn't necessarily going to crack the 2 deep come fall. Despite the terrible job Rumph did in terms of recruiting the CB position, the 6 CBs we have going in to Spring posse some very good talent and potential for development. Besides Ivey we have a group of Al Blades, TeCory Couch, Tyrique Stevenson, Isaiah Dunson and Marcus Clarke. Maybe they are not all 1st round picks but every kid on that list can play and you could do a lot worse. I look forward to what TRob can do with Blades, Couch and Stevenson and I am very high on Dunson and Clarke. Especially Clarke who looks like a natural. Overall I expect much better play from this position going into the 2021 season with CB recruiting doing a 180.

It may not seem fair but Leonard Taylor, James Williams and Avantae should open camp as 2nd string ahead of Jordan Miller, Gurvan Hall and Amari Carter, respectively.

Carter has been here 4 years. Both Miller and Hall have been here 3 years. They have not progressed much.

Put the best athletes on the field and live with mistakes instead of playing veterans with less talent who had their time.

Like this post.

Definitely concerned about the DE situation. Banking on a lot of young talent to step into what has been a position of strength in recent years. Hope is the Tennessee transfer helps solidify the group. Also wonder if Taylor doesn't start out here rather than DT.

Agree my man and well said. We definitely have some things to work with back there and it definitely could be worse but it’s nowhere near where it should be at a university like UM where the CB position actually does grow on trees down here in south Florida. But Trob will definitely fix that as we all know he’s a top the mountain ace recruiter. And I think he’s gonna have Rique, blades and couch balling on the first team. My comments towards Ivey might have been a little hash but I say might. Because while Trob we’ll definitely improve his technique, which of course will improve his play, he still has G5 speed and hips which isn’t going to change. I think under Trobs tutelage he can definitely be a quality backup/depth player but he’s not a starter at this level.

I don’t think Hall has been a disappointment. Y’all just overrated him. His high school film had only hard hits.
We from that standpoint he has been a disappointment as well. He often injures himself on most of his attempts at a big hit. At this point, I just hope he can improve his coverage ability and tackling in space.

I'm in agreement regarding Ivey. Especially when you consider how TRob will coach up Blades, Couch and Stevenson and bring the best out of them. That and I'm telling everyone to keep an eye on Marcus Clarke. That kid just has that special CB intangible. Clarke just has a knack for the position in addition to being fast, fluid and quick with great hips not to mention great instincts, awareness, hands and ball skills. I think if the desire to be great is there and he is coachable in addition to being willing to put in the time Clarke can be a Phillip Buchanon caliber CB. I'm also high on Isaiah Dunson. That gives us 5 CBs with good to very good talent plus Ivey and the true frosh Malik Curtis. It certainly isn't where a UM CB room should be but all that is about to change as I have absolutely no doubt that TRob will attract elite level true Miami caliber CBs. Let's get it!

Lmao at DJ Ivey having a Mike Jackson type season or better?? He’ll be competing with Isiah Dunson for 2nd string reps behind Stevenson.
I like Dunson in that matchup. Maybe not in the very beginning but Dunson should overtake Ivey fairly soon.

It’ll be more interesting to see how Blades, Brooks, TAC, and Huff develop. Ivey is slow and stiff. He should never be starting at UM playing a man to man defense. Which is exactly how this scheme excels. Blades has the physical tools of a high pick. He’s the guy that should be developed at CB and starting. The LBs have some speed and talent and really need the coaching as the OP covered. Flagg shouldn’t be a starter IMO. He should also be a reserve with his lack of speed. A decent P5 LB is not enough to beat good teams that spread out the ball with top talent at the skill positions. It’s too easy to get exposed.
