Let the speculation begin

He had potential but he showed very little , just like the rest of the dl. And was a reason why our defense sucked. We had ZERO dudes playing big minutes on the DL last year. LT was still a pup so I’m not counting him. I’m just being real. There’s a reason Mario hit that area so hard. I hope he stays for depth but I see people overrating our guys per usual.
Eh jhh no doubt had a down year last year but what he showed in 2020 is not a case of “overrating” our players. He was a very productive pass rushing dt and showed a lot Imo for really still someone who was somewhat new at the position in his career

At this point, it can’t just be all potential. Half of our roster is “potential”. We’ve been waiting for guys like JHH or Miller, etc. to show up and ball, and it’s just not going to happen the way some of y’all think it will.

We need DUDES, not wet dreams about what could be.

Based on potential? Maybe. But what’s been put on tape doesn’t align with that. I’d hate to lose him bc we’re thin and I believe he does have potential, but if it hasn’t shown up yet, I might not ever.
Potential and his 2020 game film which was far better than anyone of the transfer guys put up and similar to mesidor that year. actually think his numbers were slightly better in 2020. Jhh has high ability , it would be a loss

Not fair to put him in the same category as Miller, he balled in 2020 he just had a down year last year

And if he leaves it’s bc he isn’t confident enough in himself, or the coaches don’t believe it. So it’s not a big a loss as you think it is. There’s a reason so many lineman are being brought in.

I think we are missing the point to a degree with accepting transfers. We all assume that the acceptance of a transfer means that young man will take the starting spot of a current player. Whereas that will almost certainly happen here and there, a lot of why Mario is accepting transfers is to light a fire under a current player and basically tell him, ‘go fight for what you want’
Its like telling Leonard Taylor, ‘5 star high school ranking doesn’t mean a **** thing on the college football field
or telling Garcia, ‘you’re not guaranteed to take over for TVD because Jacurri is coming for that spot’

The transfer portal is above all about creating not just depth, but discomfort. Better keep looking over your shoulder player Z because someone is coming for your minutes. And if you can’t handle that pressure we don’t need you. For those that can handle the pressure, competition is the greatest form of motivation.

People want to play at the end of the day,

@brock , I see why you like JHH over the inbound portalers from his potential. And "maybe" it was Manny and "maybe" it was a slump year. But he was mediocre at best at the point of attack last year. I honestly can't remember one memorable moment from him in 2021. Mario/Steele/Salave'a can't just hope for the best. Those kids coming in may have lower ceilings. But they've produced. I'd take every one of them but Moultrie over JHH to win in 2022.

@Cribby agree on your assessment. No one played at an acceptable level at DT last season. Silvera and Ford were the best options last year, and their performance was "okay" for ACC play, but we would fold like a house of cards against top teams. I'm very concerned about Taylor, too. He had bad coaching last season. Simpson and Stroud weren't bad DL coaches per se. But they did him a disservice in letting him play before he was sound, he had no fundamentals. Sometimes you need to slow down to speed up. And it's going to take a full season, IMHO, for Taylor to get back on the right vector where he's playing at 5-star level.
spot on

We need some of our fans to hit the portal. Antrel Rolle said clearly that the biggest motivation was the guy behind you pushing you to be great. Mario is trying to create that atmosphere and some of our fans are worried about players FEELINGS.

If you afraid of competition this U ain't for you.

If you guys really wanted something to be concerned about you should look at who or staying quarterback has chose to workout with throughout the off season. Yup that's Malik rosier... He's helping coach up a hiesman contender & our starting QB(FML)
I mean I trust Ponce to be the one he listens to most. If Rosier wants to work with him on the side, I don’t think that’s a bad thing.

JHH would be a loss. In 2021 he had a great year with the ends getting all the attention. Last year he got all the attention and did not produce as much to the eye. My guess is he still graded out well. If he leaves he will show up at a top 20 type school.

I'll make it simple cause today I just ain't with the *****. Within the last two weeks we had 5 highly rated recruits commit. Several going public this week. One in particular you will love to see. Second thing is confirmation Wes was in an accident yesterday & hurt his foot. Still don't have confirmation if it's a hairline or a clean break.
Word

Just don't have enough info. to make an informed decision all things JHH. What was the injury that sidelined him in the spring? Maybe he's not with the new regime's mentality/work ethic? Is his frame the type that added weight from '20 to '21 was not beneficial? Is he really more of a SDE that would fit better in a 3-4 heavy (almost everyone's multiple to a degree) front?
The only thing evident is that last year he didn't take the step we all expected, and now there's more competition for playing time. Who knows, could even be NIL related.
