Leavitt

It would be a waste to throw a 4+ million bag at Leavitt just to attempt to squeeze out 10 wins next year (especially with his added injury concerns). Take a chance on the young guys at QB, and make sure to keep Toney locked in for 2026 and 2027. It was worth risking it with Beck this year since we had a roster that could compete, but next year we return almost no production outside of RB/DB/Toney.

Starting Emory next season would be a waste though. You have to start Nickel/Coleman and see what you have there, and that will guide the portal decision for the 2027 season. Going 8-4/9-3 with Emory vs 6-6/7-5 with Nickel for example does nothing for you.

The most disappointing thing so far this portal cycle has been the failure to get Perich and Biles, we really should have went all in on those two (and maybe we did but whiffed, hard to tell). This is lining up very similar to when UM basketball made the Final 4 and then couldn't capitalize.
The fact that we are going for a QB in the portal heavily suggests that they dont think they have the right guy in the building rn.

Couldn’t disagree more. Sam is a stud. No one had more of a concern than Beck. We have a shot at the playoff again you pay big.
This isn’t revisionist history when I say I checked in on Beck with multiple people that would know. I even posted about it when he committed. I never heard bad teammate or anything toxic / negative with culture . It was always “ he was to himself , kinda quiet , not a vocal leader “. He just played ball and was to himself which rubs folks wrong for not being engaged.

idk man, this dude feels like a supergenius. he probably got this announcement timed up for some hype.

Who would we have landed had Mario ‘moved quicker’ as you describe
Hey dude, you waking up tomorrow isn't guaranteed. If you're looking for absolutes and guarantees you're gonna spend your life disappointed. Signing a QB earlier in the portal window isn't guaranteed. Signing the #1 QB out of high school isn't guaranteed.

Let's play a game called what's more likely to happen... the same guy who's hit big on a portal QB in the last two cycles and now has us in a natty after 25 years of misery not having a plan with a backup seems like a bad bet.
Kind of my point, looking at that portal QB list of who's left isn't anything to feel good about.

Run Malicat every play. Probably more effective than Emory starting.

I found another qb prospect with a lot of potential. 6’5” 225 lbs. Hasn’t had a chance to be a full time starter because his team has been getting experienced transfer QBs each year. In his limited starting experience, helped his team knock off the conference powerhouse and almost helped engineer a massive upset over an undefeated P4 opponent late in the season.

Not usually considered a dual threat, but in HS competed in track and field events and was a district qualifier in the 110 and 300-meter hurdles as a sophomore.

As a HS senior, completed 161 of 257 pass attempts (62.6 percent) for 2,049 yards with 21 TD and 4 INT. Also carried the ball 58 times for 238 yards and 2 more scores.

As a junior- In 9 games (missed one game due to injury), completed just over 63 percent of his passes for 2,168 yards with 16 TD to go against 3 INT. Added 64 rushing yards and 4 more scores on the ground.
