LBs

We have up 142 rushing yards per game, in the ACC where we only faced 3 above average RB. Most of the time when teams ran power plays we got killed. Shaq is terrible at fighting off blocks, and meeting RBs in the whole, Mike, choses a side too much, and McCloud don’t wrap up. I’m not saying they are not good, but they are not a good as we make them seem.

We faced 4 of the top 15 rushing offenses last year in ga tech,Wisconsin, bc, Pitt. Held ga tech a full yard under their average and they ran pretty much every play. Pitt had the #14 rushing offense in the country when they played Miami and had 73 yards on 38 carries. Pitt had a power running game did Miami get killed there?

Of course the rushing yards per game will be higher. They weren’t elite in defending the run but still very solid and much better than what you are trying to insinuate

Yes they were, sort it at yards per rush and it will tell you there top 25 in that category. Only reason why the rushing defense was ranked 42nd because it only goes by the total yards given up statistic and not how many given up per rush.

My apologies. Teamrankings.com has Miami at 37th at 3.8 yards per carry. Not sure why.

I hope our....

Boom. Teeth knocked out.

Ya man I'm not so sure about that. Idk if it's speedy backs, or just defending between the tackles but, we're not great at it...

2018 vs UVA: 140+ rushing yards
2018 vs Vtech: 110+ rushing yards
2018 vs Duke: 150 rushing yards
2018 vs Wisc: 280+ rushing yards
2018 vs LSU: 160+ rushing yards

not really the strongest trait by the LBs.

Would bet the total number of first downs by our offense in those 5 games isn’t much more than 20. That certainly has something to do with it as well.

Our D this year should finally see what it’s like to not have to be on the field 3/4 of the game and having the other team start on our own 40 most of the time.

They'll be the difference for better or worse.

Denzel Perryman was the MVP of the last Florida game. Might've been his best game as a Cane actually.

You average 3.5 yards running the ball and you never see a 4th down. so like I said, you run the rock (effectively) and you control the clock. Yea, our offense was bad but our run defense wasn't GREAT. that's all I'm saying. We got some pirranahs out here waitin to pounce lol.
This is just not true. Stop looking at football so black and white. If you get 10 yards in 1 run and 4 yards the next 3 runs combined thats 3.5 ypc yet only 1 first down and a dead drive on 4th and 6.

142 rushing yards is **** when you consider how much teams ran against us. The average is what matters and we held them well below average.

If you guys judge a rushing defense by simply how many yards they gave up you simply dont know football. If a team allows 500 yards on 150 rushes and the other team allows 600 yards in 300 rushes you cant say the second team was worse against the run just because they gave up more yards.

Miami doesn’t give up big plays like that, look up the stats.Maybe every once in a while but it’s not often. Manny operates his defense being extremely aggressive but not giving up explosive plays.

Occasionally....75 yard run by Duke...50 from LSU for example.

This isn't the NFL. If you, only average 150 yards rushing per game you are ranked about 100th in the nation.

You have to look at more advanced metrics like yards/carry for one. Look at our rushing defense S&P+. We ranked 25th there. We were not elite against the run, but we were pretty dang good against it. That's even including the Wisconsin game. Take the one outlier game out and we were a top 20 rushing defense according to advanced metrics.

Never said he would be a top 5 pick. But it’s funny that the narrative is he isn’t a disruptive or impact player yet he outpaces guy in a number of categories in tfls and sacks like Devin white but it’s deemed meaningless. And for the same reason you say this Is a different system for shaq then that should apply to Devin white too right since the system allows him to get 120 plus tackles or so. I think both quarterman and Pinckney should absolutely be deemed as elite linebackers at the college level given how productive each have been and leading a great defense the last couple of years entering their senior year.

Just for perspective purposes but quarterman had more tfls than any sec player and most importantly dlineman returning in the sec. that’s very impressive

Both Garvin and Shaq had more TFLs than anyone on that list. Garvin is the returning leader in TFLs in the ACC
