LBs STATUS FOR NEXT YEAR

Quarterman was 1st team ACC. I wouldn't be surprised if he leaves.

Has nothing to do with draft status. He's a Miami Hurricane, so nobody should be remotely surprised if he leaves. It's what the kids here do. But I think he stays. He's a smart kid with a great support system, IMO he pulls a Jaquan and realizes that staying 1 more year is probably in his best interest.

May need to look at Romeo at S to keep him on the field because their is a lot of rotation with the striker position.
Unless Derrick Smith Doesn't step up in the safety position then I would agree in having Romeo as the S instead of a pure striker.

Wrong ... Romeo is a juggernaut at the Striker position.

Romeo staying at Striker only makes sense if we lose Shaq or Pinckney. If we lose one of them, we will need McCloud to work one of those positions. If they all stay, we have a consistent play-maker (in limited role) on our D sharing time while at S we have talented kids starting with less experience.

If Shaq leaves, let McCloud play MLB. He's definitely not an OLB, but has the size to fill the middle. Get Finley, Carter and Hall on the field together next year. Then we'll have Bandy, Blades and Ivey as the CBs.

I don’t want to see Banda on the field - better coaching the safeties!! Frierson will have a shot as well.

I've been waiting for this cat to explode and take over games. These last couple games, especially Pitt, Shaq has brought the violence I had not seen in him before. He should comeback and end his career off right....

That and with Jaquan gone he will be the leader of the defense again.

Our LB's have been the weakest part of our defense. Just watch film of them in action. They're consistently plugging the wrong gaps, chasing and making tackles 10 yards downfield, can't cover RB's and TE's coming off the backfield/line NFL scouting reports of all 3 say pretty much the same thing. Don't know who coaches them but he should give his pay money back. All 3 of them should go after 6th round if they come out early.
Diaz corches them

Per 247 in regards LBs leaving early for the NFL Draft.

Staff has been told McCloud will be returning for his senior year.

Staff believes Quarterman is returning next year because there is a belief Quarterman will not be a high draft pick

Staff is hopeful Pinckney will decide to join them. Pinckney, like Quarterman, could also be overlooked as a draft prospect given his size.

Meaningless to speculate or report at this point.
Most players at UM "plan" to return for their senior year in November/December

I am not concerned about Shaq leaving early. I mean it's possible but he's one of the leaders of the team and doesn't strike me as the type of guy to declare early just to get picked in the late rounds.

I have heard Pinckney isn't super crazy about school and would be the most likely to declare of the three. Still, I don't think he's going anywhere either. He's got good instincts and a nose for big plays but he's got to improve against the pass. The NFL isn't interested in 220 lb linebackers who can't cover. He's gotten better over the course of his career here and I don't think he's peaked yet. Next year he can show scouts that's he's become a complete linebacker.

Finley needs to see the field more, period. The kid is amazing to watch. Carter and Hall are most likely the safeties with Blades, Ivey, Frierson, and Bandy playing the CB spots. So, it would behoove us to have experienced LB’s roaming the middle and helping to clean up mistakes before they reach the 3rd level. We won’t and shouldn’t see a safety as our leading tackler on defense. That should be Shaq, especially playing the middle.

Everyone can be as cynical as they want but this is great news. Are they perfect? Nope but they’re pretty **** good. Plus Finley coming on gives us a ton of scheme flexibility.
