LB play through 3 games

Pastor Rick is all about the forgiveness of sin and second chances - he should give Randy Shannon his blessing and let him be redeemed as a Cane. If you want a DC /LB coach, then Shannon is 100x a better choice than Diaz.

Why can’t we dream better than that.
I’m not going to argue if Shannon is better than Diaz. (Both have a tendency to fall in love with with physically inferior player that gives up big plays but that’s not the point)
Why can’t we dream better than Shannon??
We keep trying to be just slightly better than the mediocre (Diaz) or terrible (dorito).
For once it would be amazing if you tried to for the best.

Shaq has been solid for the most part(had a few lapses yesterday in the passing game).

Pinckney has been worse than shaq

Mccloud has been solid the first 2 games this season. I dont Even think I saw Him on the field yesterday.

Whatever it is they need to get it fixed, the linebacker play is lacking for the defense. They are however fitting into run gaps a little better than last year

Battling OL for least effective position group on the field. Striker looked ok though

Amuse me, why is it insane?

Here is the argument for him.

1. He is a former player who won a national title with a 24-1 record as a player.
2. His resume includes DC at two top programs.
3. During Shannon's six years as the Hurricanes defensive coordinator, his defenses consistently finished among the best in the nation:
4. He has head coaching experience.
5. His recruiting is at least on par with Diaz.
6. He would likely take the job as it would be a promotion, plus he is not likely to leave if he comes back.
7. He was a coach or player for our last 4 national titles.
8. Jimmy Johnson thought highly enough of him to make him the LB coach for the Dolphins. This was a time when JJ was established and could probably pick his LB coach amongst several willing candidates.

Yes, there may be some bad blood, but only a fool let's that influence his decisions.
I agree....

But everyone on here already had all three declaring for the draft after this year, including Richards.

Now Jeff Thomas on the other hand lol. I don't remember Richards being as good in his freshman year. He looks like he put in work.

They are lucky the OL and QB play has been so poor, otherwise we'd be crucifying the LB unit on here. Big disappointment so far.

Hit and miss. It’s been a digression every year

PS: that means the coaching suck.

Diaz is overrated and overhyped because he blitzes a lot. Also he hired all his buddies to be on his staff. No reason for Banda or Patke to be coaching D1 football. Defense is weak!

Shaq is bad in space , man 2 man he’s going to get cooked. I’m surprised more offenses don’t get him isolated on rbs more. Toledo was working on him pretty good.

I’m surprised we don’t use only one lb in the 4-5 wr sets.

LB play was not great but not horrible.
Give some credit to Toledo's coaches. This could be the best offense and system we face until Va Tech.

We all drank overwhelmingly amounts of Koolaide here also.

Except our front four DT and DE have stepped up , but that’s basically it on D

Slow and stiff. One thing that stood out to me while watching the game is that our athletes on D didn’t look any more athletic than their offense. We need more speed at lb and safety in a bad way.

None have any ability to change direction. I don't think you can teach flexibility but its an obvious weakness.

Excellent point , I was searching for my own point and YOU nailed it.

Some here make comments and judgmental reactions without out any idea .

Excellent

You get that with a guy like Avery huff for sure and Solomon and brooks are overall better athletes than the linebackers we have recruited the last 2 classes.

Stiffness comes with thinking to much also field presence instincts.

Reading play to reaction confidence weak.

Been harping on it in numerous threads, when this year have you seen a linebacker put a hand on a pass, let alone intercept one? It can not just be scheme when we have crowds running clear across the field waiting for a pass.

Problem going back to last year and it's seemingly worsening.

This group is pudgy, lost, and a huge weakness defensively. This group flopped overall based on the hype we gave them. Very disappointing play.

They can't cover people. They often get lost in the run game. Their athleticism is nearly non-existent.

Very poor group, and even sadder considering how long they've been here and their knowledge of the defense.
